CENTRAL NEW YORK – A busy stretch for the Skaneateles girls swim team concluded Tuesday with a head-to-head meet against New Hartford where it took a 99-82 defeat to the Spartans.
This came just three days after the Lakers swam at a Sept. 24 invitational meet at Watkins Glen High School where it finished seventh in a 15-team field with 172 points.
Alice Spaulding nearly won the 100-yard butterfly, her time of 59.18 seconds only behind the strong 54.66 from Corning’s Angela McKane. She later added a third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.32.
Skaneateles also finished seventh in the 200 medley relay in 1:59.39 and eighth in the 400 freestyle relay (4:07.70), Elizabeth Springer getting to ninth place in the 50 freestyle in 25.89 seconds as she also won her consolation final in the 100 freestyle in 57.43.
Arianna Matthews was 10th in the 500 freestyle in 5:42.43 and 11th in the 200 freestyle in 2:08.31, with Caitlin Comer 12th (2:32.51) in the 200 individual medley before taking 10th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.60.
Against New Hartford, Spaulding went 1:00.31 in the 100 butterfly and also took the 200 IM in 2:17.71 before pairing with Matthews, Elizabeth Springer and Olivia Springer to go 3:59.38 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Matthews improved to 5:39.38 in the 500 freestyle and was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.87 before Elizabeth Springer won the 50 freestyle in 26.39 seconds, Springer also taking second in the 100 freestyle in 58.78. Comer went 1:17.48 in the 100 breaststroke and Arianna Cirincione earned 183.60 points in diving.
West Genesee was back in action Thursday night, taking on Jamesville-DeWitt and staying close all the way through a 96-88 defeat to the Red Rams.
Allison Putnam led the Wildcats with a pair of victories, Putnam swimming the 200 freestyle in 2:08.36 and then getting first in the 500 freestyle in 5:44.59 to hold off Thearyn Wales’ 5:46.44.
Camille Bohli won the 200 IM in 2:40.37 over Josie Coyne’s 2:42.93 before Lily Mauro scored 229.10 points in diving ahead of J-D rival Kayla McQuaid’s 220.75.
Later in the meet, Allie Ivery won the 100 breaststroke, her 1:23.27 just ahead of Majda Milijkovic (1:26.13) and Makayla Dunham (1:27.57) in a 1-2-3 WG sweep that closed the gap to six points, 88-82, but J-D swept all the relays to stay out in front.
WG has road meets next week against Cicero-North Syracuse at Nottingham and Christian Brothers Academy at Le Moyne College as Skaneateles hosts Syracuse City next Wednesday night.
