CENTRAL NEW YORK – Regardless of the setting or the format, one constant fact this fall is that no one has proven able to keep up with the Christian Brothers Academy boys golf team in the Onondaga High School League.
CBA played last Tuesday against Homer and had one of its closest calls of the season, but was able to battle past the Trojans 209-215.
Luke Snyder’s 40 at Cortland Country Club trailed the Homer duo of Mitch Riter (38) and Lukas Quinn (39). But Jack Gregory (41), Emmet Kilmartin, Eric Lee (42 each) and James Stanton (44) all finished ahead of the Trojans’ Cooper Swartz (45) to put the Brothers in front.
In a rematch at Drumlins, CBA prevailed 193-209 over Homer as it also prevailed 198-255 over Mexico.
Gregory, with a 37, trailed Riter’s 35, but Lee and Eric Snyder both posted 38 and 40s were shot by Kilmartin and Joe Papa to match Quinn and push the Brothers in front again.
Fayetteville-Manilus Green had its own big match last Friday, attempting to get payback against unbeaten Baldwinsville, whom it lost to 201-210 earlier this month at Timber Banks.
Back on its home course at the Cavalry Club, the Hornets shot a lower team score, yet lost by that same nine-stroke margin, 195-204, as the Bees’ quintet of Nate MacGregor, Billy Shipman, Owen Frechette, Keegan Lynch and Alex Blum averaged under 40 in cold, windy conditions.
Before this, F-M Green beat Cicero-North Syracuse Green 209-251 last Wednesday at Greens at Beaumont, where scoring was tough.
Duncan McDaniel’s 41 led all individuals, just ahead of Luke Weisiger, Jack Antshel and Hugh Roddy, each of whom shot 42. They, along with Dan Stark’s 45, were ahead of the 48 by C-NS Green’s Ethan Matthews that led his side.
F-M White had met B’ville earlier in the week at Woodcrest, falling 183-218 to the Bees as Parker Kaczarowski had a 39, with Grant Rhyde and Luke McGinnis each shooting 34. But they trailed 34s from Nate MacGregor and Owen Frechette along with 39s from Aiden Motala and Billy Shipman.
Then, in Wednesday’s 192-210 defeat to West Genesee Gold at Westvale, Friedman had a 39, but the Wildcats’ Ben Glass blazed to a 33 and Jason Clifton added a 37 as Kaczarowski, Adam Koss and Gavin Balintly each posted 42.
Playing again on Friday, F-M White lost 196-209 to Liverpool. Koss and Rhyde both shot 40, but three Warriors improved on that total, led by Dom Osbeck, whose 36 beat out Bradley Cole (38) and Owen Salanger (39).
