CENTRAL NEW YORK – Perhaps now the West Genesee Gold boys golf team can seriously consider challenging for league honors by the time this consolidated regular season is over.
The Wildcats earned its best win so far last Monday against Cicero-North Syracuse Blue, improving to 5-2 overall by defeating the Northstars 207-216.
Over nine holes at Lakeshore Country Club, Ryan Till, with a 38, and Ben Glass, with a 39, had the best totals, ahead of a 40 by C-NS Blue’s Jack Wolanski.
Jason Clifton’s 41 equaled that of Drew Kippen, and to clinch it Owen Zoanetti finished with a 43 and Anthony Porto picked up a 46.
West Genesee’s Blue team lost 184-210 to unbeaten Baldwinsville last Tuesday at Westvale. Ashton Fassinger’s season-best 39 was topped by six Bees, led by Aiden Motala (35) and Nate MacGregor (36), as Frank Barbuto had a 42 ahead of 43s from Max Leubner, Will Shields and Jared Jaeger.
In Wednesday’s 194-223 loss to Fayetteville-Manlius Green at Westvale, Shields put up a 42 and Jon Shoults a 44, but they trailed four Hornets led by Luke Weisiger’s 37. Barbuto got a 46 ahead of Jack Einlich (48) and Fassinger (49).
WG Gold edged WG Blue 203-207 when they met Friday afternoon. Zoanetti’s 38 was one ahead of Shields’ 39, with five golfers – Till, Gates, Barbuto, Jaeger and Max DeMass – each shooting 41. Tyler Anastasio (42) beat out Fassinger’s 43.
In the Onondaga High School League, Skaneateles returned to the course last Wednesday at Orchard Valley and, improving to 6-1 on the season, defeated LaFayette 203-251.
Drew Mancini’s season-best 36 highlighted a top-five Lakers sweep. Jackson Marquardt had a 39 as Tyson DiRubbo and Will Murphy both posted 41 and Graham Bradley added a 46.
Another win followed on Thursday, Skaneateles routing Cortland 219-247. Marquardt’s 35 at Skaneateles Country Club was a season low, well clear of Mancini’s 42 as DiRubbo had a 44 and Ben Underhill a 46. Murphy finished at 52.
Westhill improved to 4-2 on the season with last Tuesday’s 210-258 victory over Phoenix. Danny Young and Devin Young matched each other with scores of 39 as Aiden Ryan got a 41, Grady Pens shot 43 to complete a top-four sweep.
The Warriors then beat Tully 207-248 Thursday at Vesper Hills. Danny Young won individual honors this time with a 36 ahead of Devin Young’s 38. Pens again posted 43 and Ryan shot 44, with Evan Chaddock and Anthony Sampo stepping up, both posting 48.
Jordan-Elbridge lost last Tuesday to Homer 210-297 at Cortland Country Club. Ben Weller, with a 54, had the Eagles’ low round, edging out Caden Hearn’s 55 as Dave Lawless shot 58. Mitch Riter posted a 37 to lead the Trojans.
In a three-team match a day later, J-E shot 268 behind Tully’s 239 and Mexico’s 246. Hearn improved to a 51, matched by teammate Devin King, while Emerson Derby picked up a 55 and Conall Fraser a 56.
A 210-267 loss to Chittenango followed on Friday, with Hearn’s 47 at Millstone well clear of a 54 from Fraser as Lawless and Derby both posted 55 and King ha d a 56. Ty Kelly’s 37 paced the Bears.
