CENTRAL NEW YORK – Even as temperatures began to cool and autumn neared, area high school boys golf teams remained hot and kept themselves atop their respective league standings.
Jamesville-DeWitt remained unbeaten against SCAC Empire division foes, winning a 184-216 match over Syracuse City head-to-head last Thursday afternoon at Drumlins.
Jackson Saroney’s 34 for nine holes, with Mitchell Archer adding a 36, as did Trey Jacobson. Sam Ahn got a 38 and Ian Delpha shot 40 ahead of the 41 from Syracuse’s Gavin Zubrzycki.
This led to another eight-team SCAC Empire match Friday at Central Square’s home course of Greenview, where again J-D finished on top with 189 to Oswego’s second-place 207 as East Syracuse Minoa was fourth with 218.
Saroney needed a 33 to beat out Auburn’s Carter Mizro (34) for individual honors. Jacobson, Delpha and Blaise Anthis tied for seventh with 38 and Archer added a 41.
For the Spartans, Zach Johnson’s 37 led to a tie for sixth place. Aaron Reynolds added a 44, with Zack Harmon getting a 45 as Braedon Smith and Logan Welch both shot 46.
Fayetteville-Manlius Green was atop the SCAC Metro division until its Sept. 7 match with Baldwinsville at Timber Banks, where the Hornets fell to the Bees 201-210.
Hugh Roddy shot a 40, but three B’ville golfers (Billy Shipman, Keegan Lynch and Colin Ray) equaled that round and Aiden Motala topped it with a 39. F-M Green could not recover from it, though Luke Weisiger and Tyler Burns both shot 42 ahead of 43s from Will Kettell and Duncan McDaniel.
Rebounding last Monday at Foxfire, the Hornets defeated Liverpool 207-216, sweeping the top three spots led by Kettell, who finished with a 38, the only round under 40.
Weisiger and Dan Stark both posted 40, equaling the Warriors’ best total from Brady Michaud. Jack Antshel chimed in with a 42 as McDaniel clinched victory with a 42.
Then F-M Green handled West Genesee Blue 194-223 on Wednesday, with Weisiger earning a 37 to win individual honors by two over Antshel. Kettell shot a 40, with Stark and Roddy both posting 42.
F-M White was 0-5, but broke into the win column last Monday at Woodcrest, beating Cicero-North Syracuse Green by a score of 220-227.
Parker Kaczarowski and Grant Rhyde both shot 43, while Charles Lorraine and Adam Koss had matching totals of 44 to equal C-NS Green’s Mike DeGroat and Brandon Marchitto. Then Dylan Friedman clinched the win by shooting 46.
F-M Green beat F-M White 201-210 on Friday at Woodcrest, with Kettell’s 38 the low round. Stark had a 40, with Ahn and Roddy both posting 41. McDaniel and Koss shot 42 ahead of Kaczarowski’s 43.
In the 200-242 defeat to C-NS Blue two days later at Lakeshore Country Club, Lorraine’s second straight 43 trailed four Northstars, led by Drew Kippen’s 36. Kaczarowski shot 47, with Aidan Curran’s 49 beating out a 51 from Friedman and 52 from Rhyde.
