ONONDAGA COUNTY – With a single performance that was more steady than spectacular, the Baldwinsville boy golf team again planted itself atop the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division ladder.
It happened Sept. 7 at Timber Banks, when the 4-0 Bees met 4-0 Fayetteville-Manlius Green with first place and, again, depth mattered a lot in B’ville’s 201-210 victory.
Individual honors went to Aiden Motala, with the only nine-hole score under 40 as he recorded a 39 and then watched his teammates add plenty of support.
Keegan Lynch, Colin Ray and Billy Shipman each posted 40 to equal F-M Green’s low round from Huey Roody. Then Nate MacGregor and Owen Frechette both had 42s to equal Luke Weisiger and Tyler Burns and help B’ville stay in front.
Back in action last Tuesday against West Genesee Blue, the Bees again displayed its depth in the course of a 184-210 victory over the Wildcats at Westvale.
Motala again led the way, his 35 just ahead of MacGregor’s 36. Bayden Penafeather-Stevenson put up a 37 as three others – Frechette, Shipman and Lynch – each shot 38 ahead of the 39 from WG Blue’s Ahston Fassinger.
B’ville was impressive again in last Thursday’s match against Liverpool at Foxfire, pulling away to handle the Warriors by a score of 184-214.
Lynch was an intense individual competition, his 35 edging MacGregor’s 36. Motala was consistent with a 37 as Ray and Shipman both finished at 38. Liverpool’s best round was a 41 from Joe Sacco.
To hold on to first place, B’ville will likely need to win both matches late this week against its main challengers, including a Friday rematch with F-M Green at Cavalry Club after it hosts Cicero-North Syracuse Blue.
