ONONDAGA COUNTY – Rain cleared up just as school got underway, and action picked up for area high school girls tennis teams.
Liverpool had already defeated Cicero-North Syracuse in the Aug. 31 season opener. As a follow-up a day later the Warriors met Syracuse East and got a 7-0 shutout.
None of Liverpool’s three singles players – Angelica Underwood, Meghan Bell and Olivia Magnarelli – dropped a game in any of their six sets of play.
It was nearly the same in doubles, with a shutout from the team of Jaspreet Purewal and Samantha Manheimer, while Jasmine Rawda and Bianca Vaccaro beat Azmira Suljic and Hsay Wah 6-0, 6-1. Christy Bui and Ashley Morgans had a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ayleen Ventura and Isho Majendero.
In a non-league match against Auburn last Wednesday afternoon, the Warriors could not snare a point in doubles, leading to a 4-2 defeat to the Maroons.
Underwood did beat Alexandra Vitale 6-4, 6-2 as Magnarelli overcame a rough start to win 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 over Emerson Brown. In the pivotal match, though, Hailey Jaquin and Isabella Turck got to a third set, only to lose to Sadie Morin and Olivia Schwab 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
C-NS was back on the court Thursday to face Fayetteville-Manlius, and did manage a point, though it still lost 6-1 to the Hornets.
F-M, who took a rare loss to Baldwinsville on Sept. 2, claimed every single match here over the Northstars’ trio of Megan Mieves, Madelyn Shaw and Addyson Fedele.
But the Northstars were able to rescue a point when Eve Campolieto and Golden Duru, in first doubles, rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Trisha Adavikolanu and Kayla Quinn.
This happened as Liverpool was shutting out Henninger 7-0, with shutouts by Underwood and Bell as, in doubles, Rawda and Vaccaro battled past Thanhthanh Nguyen and Jemima Bobelabi 6-4, 6-3.
Chloe Musengo and Lydia Breckheimer had their own 6-4, 6-3 win over Akeela Campbell and Hkee Thay as Purewal and Kamry Scanna paired up to win 6-2, 6-4 over Thay and Kim Phan.
