ONONDAGA COUNTY – Buoyed by a victory over Fayetteville-Manlius Green on May 13, the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue girls golf team had a Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division regular-season title within its grasp.
And the Northstars moved closer to it last Wednesday when it went to Westvale and put together another strong all-around effort to beat West Genesee 178-252.
Over nine holes, Jessica Ricciardi and Isabella Borte each shot 41, well clear of the field. Andrea Wheaton was third with a 52 and Gabriella DiOrio had a 53 ahead of the 57 from the Wildcats’ Sophia Simiele.
C-NS Blue shot 178 again in a win over Baldiwnsville where Riccardi had a 42 and Borte a 43, with Ava Mazzoli stepping up, her 46 matching the Bees’ Anna Falcone. DiOrio added a 47.
A rematch with West Genesee Thursday at Northern Pines produced a 183-226 victory where Ricciardi again had 42 and Borte matched her 43, with Chloe Tice getting a 48 and Andrea Wheaton a 50 in support.
As this went on, Liverpool had its own match against F-M Green last monday at Hickory Hill, falling 161-176 to the Hornets.
Ella Foriero shot a solid 42, with Maddie Turck getting a 43, Emma Fenwick a 44 and Jewelyana Daniells earning a 47 ahead of Ava Brown’s 50. The Hornets swept the top four spots, though, as Gabby Dardis shot 39 and Elizabeth Noel a 40 ahead of 41s from Erin Graves and Alana Isley.
Liverpool had to face both F-M Green and F-M White a day later at Green Lakes, shooting 205 but finishing behind Green’s 178 and White’s 178.
Turck led the Warriors this time, her 49 well back of the 37 from F-M Green’s Gabby Dardis. Daniels finished with a 50, while Foriero had a 52. Fenwick and Cloe Dailey both finished with 54.
C-NS Green fell 221-232 to West Genesee when they went head-to-head. Mya Ashkar shot 57, as did Jillian Bambino, with Lindsey Kubala adding a 58, though they trailed Simiele’s 49 and Olivia Snyder’s 56.
Then Liverpool met C-NS Green on Friday, and the Warriors prevailed 191-221, led by Daniels’ 43 and Turck’s 46 ahead of Kubala, who had a 48. Foriero finished with a 49 and Dailey picked up a 53.
