CENTRAL NEW YORK – At least through the end of April, the Westhill girls golf team has shown itself to be the favorite in the Onondaga High School League.
A one-stroke victory over Christian Brothers Academy on April 21 got the Warriors rolling, and it improved to 3-0 last Monday at Camillus Golf Club, defeating Cazenovia 216-237.
In the race for individual honors, Catherine Dadey’s 50 was one shot behind the 49 from the Lakers’ Sophie Clancy, but Westhill made up for it with depth as Charlotte Roth shot 52, Bella Jones had a 54 and Hannah Johnston’s 60 equaled that of Cazenovia’s Claire Marris.
Moving on to Thursday’s match against Skaneateles, Westhill remained perfect, going on the road to earn a 218-262 victory Dadey shot a 42 at Skaneateles Country Club, with Jones’ 56 matching that of the Lakers’ Lili Winkelman.
Earlier in the week, Skaneateles prevailed 246-261 over Manlius-Pebble Hill. Jillian Scott shot a 54, while Winkelman had a 59 as they both trailed the 51 from the Trojans’ Amitees Fazeli.
This followed a 209-240 loss to CBA where Winkelman had a 61 at Drumlins, but five CBA golfers beat that total, led by Meredith Sommers. Who had a 48.
When Marcellus took its turn against MPH on Thursday, the Mustangs won 239-288, with Allison Coombs shooting a 53, beaten only by Fazeli’s 50. Genevieve Formoza shot 59 and Miranda Stewart finished with a 60.
West Genseee braved cold temperatures last Wednesday and hosted Fayetteville-Manlius Green at Westvale, the Wildcats absorbing a 123-167 defeat to the Hornets.
Sophia Simiele shot a 35, beaten by four F-M players led by Alana Isley (29) and Erin Graves (30) as Abigail Fassinger finished with a 43. Gianna Corbin, with a 44, was just ahead of Olivia Snyder’s 45 as Madilyn Lauricella and Allison Shortslef both posted 46.
In boys golf, Bishop Ludden played last Monday in its season opener against Fabius-Pompey and the Gaelic Knights rolled to a 248-278 victory over the Falcons.
Phil McGarvey shot 45 at the Pompey Club as he and Andrew Towsley, with a 47, topped the 49s shot by F-P’s Wyatt Drexler and Peter Skeval. Matt Kneechtle finished with a 52, Blake Kneechtle had a 55 and Joe McGarvey shot 59.
