CENTRAL NEW YORK – Frigid late-April temperatures did not keep a couple of area high school track and teams from sweeps of their respective Wednesday-afternoon meets.
Each of the West Genesee sides were successful against Henninger, with the girls rolling to an 89-50 victory over the Black Knights.
Several different Wildcats won events, led by Zoe Maupin, who ran 800 meters in two minutes, 40.2 seconds and also was first in the 1,500-meter run in 5:22.3.
Chloe Feitze took first in the 3,00-meter run in 13:04 as Vivian Youmans threw the discus 84 feet 11 inches. Karli Clark cleared 7 feet in the pole vault and Alexis Rydelek threw the shot put 28’6.
Da’Maya Rufus went 13.5 seconds in the 100-meter dash and helped WG take the 4×100 relay in 56.2 seconds. Feitze helped the Wildcats win the 4×800 relay in 10:56.2 before a 4×400 victory in 4:50.5.
This happened as Skaneateles saw both of its teams improve to 2-0 on the season, the Lakers beating Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 93-36 on the boys side and 98-28 on the girls side.
A deep lineup helped the Skaneateles boys sweep the sprints as John Phillips ran the 100 in 12.0 seconds, Seamus Fogerty took the 200 in 27.0 seconds and Nolan Gryzlo went 1:00.9 in the 400.
Aidan Ward ran the 1,600 in 5:31.0 and then won the 800 in 2:23.4. Alex Moro cleared 8’6” in the pole vault, with Max Paciorek topping 5’4” in the high jump as Henry Thompson threw the discus 97’10” and Will Feeney threw the shot put 35’3 ½” to take that event.
Kyla Palmer led the Skaneateles girls, going 12.8 seconds in the 100 and 28.4 seconds in the 200, while Maddie Wright topped 4’8” in the high jump and went 19.8 seconds in the 100 hurdles.
Lily Coleman took the 400 sprint in 1:06.5 as Lucy Fleckenstein won the 1,500 in 5:38 flat and Tobi DiRubbo claimed the 800 in 2:53.2. Isabella Arroyo threw the discus 54’9 ½” and Georgia Kriedler had a long jump of 13’5”.
WG’s boys team competed last Friday in the Onondaga Central Invitational, where on the boys side Dom Burris won the long jump, his top attempt of 21’2” the only leap better than 20 feet, while also helping Bryce Bort, Chris Moser and Payton Manipole win the 4×100 relay in 44.38 seconds.
Burris also finished second in the 100 in 11.41 seconds, with Moser second in the 400 sprint in 52.23 seconds and Bort getting a second-place triple jump of 40’10 1/4”. Connor Moore needed 5:04.28 to finish third in the 1,600.
Then many local teams went to the Chittenango Invitational on Saturday, where Westhill had Ashley Bolesh tear to victory in the girls 400-meter dash in a swift 57.01 seconds.
Westhill’s boys finished sixth with 42 points, led by Patrick Mahoney, who won the pole vault by clearing 10’9” as no one else topped 10’6”..
In the regulation mile, Brian Kenny won in 4:36.39, edging the 4:37.87 from teammate Brandon Mulholland as Drew O’Reilly finished fourth. Evan Frost was fourth in the 100 in 11.77 seconds, with the Warriors third in the 4×800 in 8:50.36.
Jordan-Elbridge had Vassianna Klock finish third in the featured Fleet Feet Mile in a time of 5:04.39, best among small-school runners as Westhill’s Jules Bleskoski was fifth in 5:17.70.
Alexander Kunz was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:57.15.
West Genesee’s girls team was second in the 4×800 in 10:09.44 and had Zoe Maupin finish fourth in the mile, Claire Griffin sixth in the steeplechase and Mya Rufus sixth in the 100 sprint.
Marcellus had Peter McCaffrey win the triple jump by going 42’4 3/4” and finish second in the high jump, clearing 5’10”, with Heidi Steigerwald fourth in the girls high jump by topping 4;10” as J-E’s Tatianna Parkolap was fifth with 4’8”. Tyler Brown gave the Mustangs a fifth-place finish in the boys discus, throwing it 112’2”.
