CENTRAL NEW YORK – Through two games, the Liverpool girls lacrosse team has shown it has every intention of offering a challenge to Cicero-North Syracuse for league and Section III Class A supremacy.
Another example of the Warriors’ quality was how it played last Wednesday night against Fulton, getting into a late lead and keeping it during a 14-10 victory over the Red Raiders.
Having romped past Rome Free Academy in its April 2 opener, Liverpool found Fulton to be a greater challenge, with Mya Carroll getting four goals and 10 draw controls as Carleigh Patterson tacked on three goals.
Still, the Warriors moved out in front because its attack was deeper and more diverse. Maggie Tifft led the way, scoring four times and getting two assists as Gianna Carbone notched a three-goal hat trick.
Three others – Mia Berthoff, Michelle Sacco and Grace Geary – had two goals apiece, with Abby Geary earning two assists and Addyson Graham tacking on a goal and Clare Miracle putting up seven saves.
As Liverpool had three games this week against Fayetteville-Manlius, Westhill and Colonie, C-NS took a 1-1 record into last Thursday’s game against Ithaca.
Well-rested and ignoring the constant rain, the Northstars romped past the Little Red 20-6, with Fran Tortora matching Ithaca all by herself thanks to her six goals and adding five assists.
Stephanie Prentice amassed three goals and four assists, with Brooke Malchanoff getting four goals and two assists. Tori Iannotti notched three goals as Gabby Putman and Sophia Nesci both scored twice. Sam Klein had the other goals.
