HOMER – With all kinds of individual accolades, the Jordan-Elbridge and Marcellus wrestling teams both made an impact during Saturday’s Section III Class B championships at Homer.
The Eagles, a combined team with Port Byron, Union Springs and Cato-Meridian, had 164 points, just behind Camden (165) for the runner-up spot as Central Valley Academy won with 219.5 points.
On J-E’s side, Jack Lamson emerged from the top seed to win at 132 pounds. Lamson earned three consecutive pins, all of them in less than three minutes, before a final where he edged CVA’s Aden Mead in a 7-5 decision.
Another win came from Ike Svitavsky at 160 pounds. After a 5-2 semifinal decision over teammate Jon Everhart, Svitavsky shut out Cortland’s Luca Canzano 9-0 for the title.
Moving to 171 pounds, Angelo Turo emerged from the top seed, getting two consecutive second-period pins before his final where, in barely more than three minutes, he pinned Homer’s Maddox Johnson.
Jack Smith reached the finals at 138 and got second place as he ran into CVA star Kace Cook and took a 16-1 technical fall.
Dylan Nolan was third at 110 pounds, pinning CVA’s Maddox Walz for that spot. Nolan Jackson got fourth place at 126 pounds as Tyler Chilson finished fifth at 102 pounds, with Kaylee Swalgin fifth at 118 pounds
Marcellus was fifth with 161 points, but got wins from Carl Santiarello at 118. He had two pins before a tense title bout with Homer’s Hunter Lines. Both wrestlers netted plenty of points, but Santiarello claimed the bout by an 11-7 margin.
At 110 pounds, Donovan Fraher had the top seed and reached the finals, only to take a 4-0 defeat to Homer’s Talan Hubbard, while at 126 pounds Colin Scherer got to the final but lost 10-0 to Camden’s Trey Kimball.
Zach Grolling won over his own teammate, Ryder Donahue, with an overtime takedown 4-2 for third place at 171. In a crowded 215-pound bracket, Jonas Kaczor won third when he edged Camden’s Steven Minor 1-0.
Dan Okhman, at 152 pounds, finished fourth, with teammate Adam Barbosa gaining fifth when he beat J-E’s Chris Martinez 10-0.
Alex Lostracco earned fifth place at 138 pounds when he shut out Homer’s Lukas Quinn in another 4-0 decision. Chris Doshna matched that finish at 145 pounds by topping CVA’s Hayden Dooley 6-3 as Gavin Ciota was sixth at 132 and Jayden Logudice sixth at 160.
West Genesee earned fourth place in the sectional Class AA meet at Henninger, earning 130 points as Maxx Fesinger emerged as the Wildcats’ lone champion at 138.
Fesinger beat his own teammate, Jack Wade, with a second-period pin in the semifinals, and then moved on to a title bout where he shut out Liverpool’s Mohammed Yousuf 9-0.
Two other WG wrestlers got to finals. Logan Willis, at 118, dropped a close title bout 3-1 to Liverpool’s Rocco DeGilormo, while Colin McAvan got to the championship round at 160 before a loss to Cicero-North Syracuse’s John Sherbourne.
Austin Fesinger finished third at 102, beating Sam Reikes (Fayetteville-Manlius) 10-3 for that spot. Wade took fourth place at 138, matched by Dylan Radcliffe at 152, while Elliott Petrie (132), Francisco Cross (160) and Omar Almlaiti (215) all finished fifth and Mason Doran was sixth at 126.
