CENTRAL NEW YORK – Just one more set of regular-season indoor track and field meets remained for area teams before heading into league and Section III championship events.
Most of them were at SRC Arena for last Saturday’s Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational, where in the morning session Marcellus picked up 62 points to finish fourth in the boys division.
Joe Striffler contended in the triple jump, his 40 feet, 11 3/4 inches earning him second place to the 41′ 1/2″ from Fayetteville-Manlius’ Ore Abolade as Peter McCaffery was fourth with 39’9 3/4″>
To lead the Mustangs, Tyler Herr was third in the 55-meter dash in 6.93 seconds, also getting third in the 300-meter dash in 38.71 seconds, where Ethan Snyder was eighth.
Nate Alexander gained third place in the 3,200-meter run in 10:37.63 as Colin Gerbsch, Peter McCaffrey, Xander Szalach and Andrew McCaffrey were fourth in the 4×400 relay in 3:53.76, with the Mustangs fifth in the 4×800 relay in 9:40.17 and also fifth (1:41.23) in the 4×200 relay.
Striffler, in the long jump, was sixth with 18’1 3/4″, with Peter McCaffrey sixth in the high jump, topping 5’3″ as Andrew McCaffrey topped 10 feet in the pole vault to finish third.
Marcellus was also ninth in the girls division, the Mustangs seeing Emma Roseboom earn a fourth-place long jump of 15’2″ and a fifth-place triple jump of 30’2 1/4″ while getting to fourth place in the 4×800 relay in 11:27.12 and sixth in the 4×400 in 4:53.50.
Jordan-Elbridge senior Tatiana Parkolap was third in the high jump, clearing 4’10” as Marcellus Heidi Steigrewald was fourth, topping 5’8″.
J-Es Vassianna Klock finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:51.20, with Coral Uhle ninth in the 300-meter dash as she helped the Eagles take fifth in the 4×200 in 2:017. J-E’s Alex Kunz was eighth in the boys 1,600.
Moving to the afternoon session of the Grieve meet, Westhill had a victory on the boys side from Brandon Mulholland, who ran the 1,600 in 4:46.81, nearly four seconds ahead of the field.
On the girls side, the Warriors’ Corrine Allen cleared 7’6″ in the pole vault for second place as Mallie Alt was fourth with 7 feet.
Ellie Thornton earned fifth place in the 1,000 in 3:42.86 and, with Ashley Carter, Alexis Bergett and Domenica Klamm, took fourth in the 4×800 in 12:30.81 as Westhill was seventh in the girls and boys 4×200. Charlotte Formica was seventh in the long jump and Collen Patrie seventh in the shot put.
West Genesee had Alexcis Rydelek earn third place in the girls weight throw with a toss of 28’7 1/2″ as teammate Annissa Lee finished seventh. Grace McNerney tied for seventh in the high jump.
Bishop Ludden had Porter Sheen get fifth place in the boys 3,200 in 11:40.37, with Isaiah Patterson eighth in the 55 sprint in 8.23 seconds and eighth in the high jump.
A day earlier, in the girls Mohawk Valley ITA meet at Utica College, Skaneateles had Kyla Palmer prevail in the girls 600 in 1:39.99 and also helped the Lakers finish fourth in the 4×400 in 4:39.50
On the boys side, Alex Moro was victorious for Skaneateles in the pole vault, the only competitor to clear 10’6″. Nolan Gryzlo had a third-place finish in the boys 1,000 in 2:54.86, with Jack Phillips fifth in the 600 in 1:32.86.
