SYRACUSE – Each of the Fayetteville-Manlius indoor track and field teams found themselves in second place at the conclusion of last Saturday’s morning session of the Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational.
The girls Hornets had 121 points behind Cicero-North Syracuse’s total of 159.5, while the boys were a bit closer to the top with 112 points as Baldwinsville (129.5) finished on top.
Twice inning, Natalee Barber claimed the 55-meter hurdles in 9.23 seconds to edge Nottingham’s Miyanah Robinson (9.32) before going to the long jump and prevailing with 15 feet 6 ¼ inches as Elina Cabrera (15’2 ¼”) was third.
Getting a win in the 55-meter dash, Maya McKenzie posted a time of 7.63 seconds as Barber (7.80) was fourth, while Hannah Kaercher ran 1,500 meters in 4:33.20 to win, Amelia Amack (4:47.96) getting fourth place.
Izzie Sullivan took second in the 3,000-meter run in 9:55.84 to the 9:45.62 from C-NS’s Kate Putman, who also won the 600-meter run ahead of Isabella Adrian’s second-place 1:42.01. Wren Usiatynski had a second-place pole vault clearance of 11’3”, just behind the 11’6” from Central Square’s Evelyn Dolce.
McKenzie, Brigid Teaken, Debbie Lucchetti and Elrose Hanlon were second in the 4×400 relay in 4:24.97 to C-NS’s 4:22.51, with Adrian, Sullivan, Kaercher and Amack second (9:37.25) to C-NS (9:33.21) in the 4×800 relay.
Cabrera took third in the triple jump with 31’3 ¾” as Teaken was sixth. Lucchetti finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run behind teammate Maria Khalifeh (3:13.23) in third place, Hanlon taing fourth (44.85 seconds) in the 300-meter dash.
F-M won two of the three boys relays. In the 4×200, Ore Abolade, Seth Albert, Connor Ball and Vincent Hunt went 1:37.28 to hold off B’ville’s 1:37.64 as Will Seamans, Cooper Dereszynski, Nolan McGinn and Ben Perry rolled to first in the 4×800 in 8:50.81.
On his own, Abolade claimed the triple jump by going 41’ ½” as Guy Juran was sixth, Abolade also earning a fourth-place long jump of 18’8 ¼”.
Seamans got second place in the 1,600-meter run in 4:32.89, with Anthony Otis (4:44.04) fourth. Dereszynski finished fourth in the 600 in 1:31.42 as Trevor Kurkin (1:32.08) was fifth.
Liam Malgieri earned a third-place finish in the shot put, heaving it 38’8 3/4” as Tyler Dixie (38’5”) was fifth. Then Malgieri got third in the weight throw with 40’3 ¼” as the Hornets also finished third in the 4×400 in 3:49.74.
Deyquan Crawford, clearing 5’6”, tied for fourth in the high jump as Kurkin tied for seventh. Ball took fifth in the 55 hurdles in 9.14 seconds and Hulbert got fifth in the 300 in 39.29 seconds as Will Ditre was seventh in the 3,200-meter run.
For Christian Brothers Academy, Cooper Groat was victorious in the boys 1,000, his time of 2:38.96 beating a field that included F-M’s Nolan McGinn (2:45.34) in third place and Ben Perry (2:45.79) in fourth place. Darien Williams gained fifth place in the 55 sprint in 6.96 seconds
On the girls side for CBA, Grace Fletcher finished fifth in the 600 in 1:47.71 and Ally Roueche (1:49.54) took sixth. Mary Sullivan was seventh in the 1,000 in 3:31.62.
