CENTRAL NEW YORK – Both the Cazenovia and Chittenango wrestling teams are making their way to this weekend’s Onondaga High School League Liberty/Patriot Championships with plenty of ambition.
When it wrestled against Marcellus last Wednesday night, the Lakers only earned points in two different bouts during a 49-9 defeat to the Mustangs.
Beaten in the first five contests (two of them forfeits), Cazenovia finally got on the board at 145 pounds when Broden Enders claimed an 8-4 decision over Chris Doshna.
Not until the end of the meet, when Kaleb Vazquez claimed a forfeit at 215 pounds, did the Lakers score again, with Bryce Enders (132 pounds) competitive in a 5-0 loss to Gavin Ciota.
A night earlier, Chittenango found plenty of success against APW/Pulaski, claiming seven of 13 bouts, but falling just short of the points it needed to prevail as it lost 36-33.
Dan Mahle offered a highlight at 102 pounds with a 16-second pin over Keirstin Michaels as Mason Ferstler, at 110 pounds, battled past Aidan Lagowski 9-6.
Quentin Mohamed pinned 152-pound opponent Gary DuPont in 96 seconds as Edward Geer (132) had a second-period fall over Ronnie Dupont and Macsen Cameron (215) pinned Jacob Maret in the second period.
APW/Pulaski got all of its points through two pins and four forfeits. Had Ferstler, Andrew Bailey (who beat Connor Shaw 9-3 at 189 pounds) or Jacob Ezzo (who edged Mike Kinney 6-5 at 285 pounds) got pins, the criterium point would have gone in the Bears’ favor.
When Cazenovia wrestled last weekend in the Mustang Duals at Mount Markham, it defeated Cooperstown 30-24 and Poland 40-12, but lost to Fayetteville-Manlius, Dolgeville and Holland Patent, whose 9-0 mark was the best of the meet.
