SYRACUSE – In what could amount to a preview of league and Section III championship meets in the weeks ahead, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls indoor track and field team got the best of Fayetteville-Manlius in Saturday’s morning session of the Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
Wins in distance races, sprints, relays and field events allowed the Northstars, with 159.5 points, to pull away from the Hornets’ second-place total of 121 points. No one else had more than Fulton’s third-place total of 47 points.
Kate Putman twice won on the oval, going 3,000 meters in nine minutes, 45.62 seconds as Gabby Putman was third in 10:28.72. Then, in the 600-meter run, Putman won in 1:38.38, while Marissa Doty was third in 1:43.66.
Hannah Boyle tore to a time of 2:55.75 in the 1,000-meter run, nearly 10 seconds faster than anyone else. Marissa Navarra finished eighth, but later joined Boyle, Sophia Graham and Gabby Putman to take the 4×800 relay in 9:33.21 to F-M’s 9:37.25.
Marissa Doty and Grace Murray went 1-2 in the 300-meter dash, Doty prevailing in 43.22 seconds to Murray’s 43.47. Jaydin Mackey and Ava Schiff did the same in the triple jump, Mackey winning with 31 feet 8 1/2 inches to edge Schiff’s best leap of 31’7 1/4″
And it happened a third time in the high jump, where Lilly Capria cleared 5’5″ and Murray, by topping 4’10”, claimed second place.
In the weight throw, Schiff took fourth place, heaving it 30’5 3/4″. Mackey added a fifth-place finish in the long jump with 14’6 1/4″.
In the 4×400 relay, C-NS had Graham, Katy Harbold, Molly McGrath and Elliana Ballagh go 4:22.51 to hold off F-M’s 4:24.97. Harbold also finished seventh in the 1,500-meter run in 5:14.17 as Camryn Jacob, Julianna Remiesiewicz, Eva Farone and Ava Gianuzzi got second in the 4×200 relay in 1:56.96.
Danielle Crivelli took third in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.51 seconds, with Jasmine Ayre fourth (9.88) and Grace Murray fifth in 10.17. Kaleigh Bosimenu was fifth in the pole vault, topping 7’6″ as Mackey was seventh in the 55-meter dash in 7.84 seconds.
The C-NS boys finished third with 66 points behind Baldwinsville and F-M, which included Carlton Garnes gaining a victory in the 55 hurdles in 8.18 seconds as Sean Graves was fourth in 8.86.
Garnes also got third place in the long jump, going 18’11 1/4″ as Trevon Walker was fifth with 18’5 1/2″ to go with his third-place high jump of 5’6″ and fifth-place triple jump of 37’11 1/2″, three spots ahead of Garnes in eighth place.
Liam Adams, Daniel Henry, Amari Stephens and Gavin McAllister were second in the 4×400 in 3:49.11 before McAllister topped 10’6″ in the pole vault for second place behind Central Square’s Brett Fehrman (13 feet). James McConnell earned fourth place in the 300 in 39.18 seconds.
Dante Melfi took sixth in the 600 in 1:32.56, with McConnell (1:32.89) eighth as the Northstars took sixth in the 4×200 in 1:41.28 and seventh in the 4×800 in 10:04.37.
