SYRACUSE – Both on an individual and team basis, the Baldwinsville boys swim team made quite an impact during Friday’s Salt City Athletic Conference Invitational at Nottingham High School.
Mikey White would prove the fastest swimmer of the meet. In the 50-yard freestyle, White, in a season-best 22.67 seconds, got closer to the state qualifying standard of 22.19 and beat out Fulton’s Bryce Rogers (22.76) as Harrison Meyers (24.31) edged Ben Webster (24.42) for seventh place.
Later, in the 200 freestyle relay, White, paired with Ben Webster, Matt Lange and Harrison Meyers, went 1:33.83, their best time of the winter, to beat runner-up Cicero-North Syracuse (1:36.72) by nearly three seconds.
Returning in the 400 freestyle relay, that same Bees quartet was second, in 3:31.98, to Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA’s 3:24.51. White also gained fourth place in the 100 freestyle in 50.57 seconds, with Lange sixth in 52.42 as Meyers was ninth and Webster 10th.
Trevor Kantak, Keenan Smith, Brennan Gruppe and Alex Lakomski grabbed fifth place in the 200 medley relay in 2:01.42. Gruppe took ninth in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.11. Lange finished fifth in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.16 as Eli Bettinger got 13th place.
Kantak went to eighth place in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.29, with Lakomski 13th as Smith was ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.92 and Bettinger 13th. Lucas Clay recorded an eighth-place time of 5:49.86 in the 500 freestyle as Zach Ehrig finished 14th in the 200 individual medley.
B’ville’s next three scheduled meets are at home, starting next Friday against Weedsport and continuing the following week with Auburn and Oswego.
