SYRACUSE – During the afternoon session of Saturday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational, the Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-DeWitt boys indoor track and field teams battled for top honors.
Ultimately, the Hornes, with 130.5 points, held off the Red Rams’ total of 120 points, while on the girls side F-M won here by a bigger margin, 142 points to Westhill’s second-place 80 as J-D (71 points) was fourth.
Nolan McGinn won the 3,200-meter run in 9:57.61, the only time under 10 minutes, while Ben Perry was second in the 1,000-meter run in 2:46.02 and Will Ditre was fifth. Will Seamans got second place in the 1,600-meter run in 4:36.29. Connor Ball was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles.
Working together in the 4×800 relay, Seamans, McGinn, Perry ad Jackson Matthews prevailed in 8:51.31, beating out J-D’s second-place 9:15.32.
Connor Ball put up a winning long jump of 19 feet 1 ½ inches, while in the shot put Tyler Dixie’s throw of 41’7 ½” was well clear of the 36’2 ¾” from the Rams’ Shaun Gladle as Dan Kenny was third with 36 feet. Trevor Krukin had a third-place high jump of 5’3”.
J-D won the 4×400 relay as Shane Gargiulo, Will Westpfal, Brayden Rivera and Sam Smith went 3:50.02, beating out F-M’s second-place time of 3:52.18.
Caleb Smith went 37.47 seconds to win the 300-meter dash, with Nick Dekaney third in 39.29, and Smith didn’t stop there, going 41’8” to beat out F-M’s Ore Abolade (41’ ¼”) as Guy Juran
Cade Fowler took third in the weight throw with 37’11 ½”. James Hillers was third in the 1,000 in 2:47.32 as Chris Donaghue finished fourth, with Hillers fourth in the 1,600 and Ashton Corona sixth. Dante Santos was fifth and Mario Smith sixth in the long jump.
On the way to the top spot, F-M’s girls saw Hannah Kaercher prevail at 3,000 meters in 9:46.40, with Isabella Adrian taking the 600 in 1:44.73. Adrian, Kaercher, Izzie Sullivan and Amelia Amack won the 4×800 in 9:34.78, well clear of J-D (11:30.99), who was second.
Natalee Barber gained a victory in the 55 hurdles in 9.15 seconds, with Bridget Teaken fifth. Barber and Teaken paired with Elrose Hanlon and Maya McKenzie to claim the 4×200 in 1:51.62.
Wren Usiatynski was spectacular in the pole vault, clearing 10’6”. Earning her own win in the triple jump, Teaken went 31’ ¼”, with J-D’s Jojo Meskos second by going 29’2 ½” and Brooke McBennett finishing fourth. Bella Pierie had a second-place shot put toss of 26’11” and was sixth in the weight throw.
Izzie Sullivan, in 3:02.17, beat out Amelia Amack (3:03.98) for second place in the 1,000, with Maria Khalifeh second (5:06.25) and Debbie Lucchetti third (5:09.27) in the 1,500-meter run.
Maya McKenzie was second in the 55 sprint in 7.60 seconds as Elrose Hanlon (7.94) was fourth. Barber took third in the long jump with 15’5 ½” as Elina Cabrera was fifth.
J-D had Molly McIntyre finish fourth in the 3,000 as the Rams’ 4×400 relay team, in 4:36.88, was just behind Chittenango’s winning 4:35.89, to go with a third in the 4×200 in 1:54.37.
Emma Deehan was fourth in the 600 and Madeline Carter was sixth in the 55 sprint. Lucy Heflin took fifth place in the high jump and Brooke Hulbert was sixth.
