SYRACUSE – Only a few points separated the Liverpool indoor track and field teams from sweeping Saturday’s morning session of the John Arcaro Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
The girls Warriors finished on top with 108 points, well clear of the 80 posted by runner-up Jamesville-DeWitt, while on the boys side Liverpool had 94 points but was just behind Fayetteville-Manlius (98 points) at meet’s end.
Teamwork on the track culminated for the girls Warriors in the 4×200 relay as the quartet of Mia Wright, Margaret Bellew, Ashlyn Brown and Lena Young won in one minute, 54.27 seconds to J-D’s 1:56.29.
Anaharie Anderson was second in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.10 seconds, with Layla Pearl Collin fifth and Natalie Venesky sixth. Collin also finished seventh in the pole vault.
Katie Nash, Gianna Carbone, Addison Ziegler and Taylor Page were second in the 4×800 relay in 11:08.77. The Warriors also took fourth in the 4×400 relay in 4:39.06.
Beatrize Gurgol earned second place in the triple jump, going 31 feet 10 ½ inches, and had a fifth-place long jump of 14’2 1/2”.
Wright took fourth (7.86 seconds) in the 55-meter dash, edging Bellew (7.90) in fifth place, and Wright did better in the 300-meter dash, going 45.01 seconds for third place as Brown (45.83) was fourth.
Charlotte Warner rose to fourth in the 1,000-meter run in 3:29.93 before Ziegler took fifth place in the 600-meter run in 1:46.05.
Trinity Howard had a third-place weight throw of 24’11” as Ariyah Racciatti finished seventh. Howard also finished ninth in the shot put.
Liverpool also got points in the 3,000-meter run, where Kaleigh Buck was fourth in 11:30.36 ahead of Meghan Moyer in fifth place and Kaitlin Hotaling in sixth place. Moyer also was fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:37.39, with Hotaling in seventh place.
Even though it was second on the team side, Liverpool’s boys still got big wins again from the likes of Jalen Graham and Ryan Hagan in their specialties.
Graham’s sweep of the throwing events included a weight throw o 60’2 1/4” along with a top shot put toss of 41’2” that beat the field by nearly four feet. Sheldon Matas got third in the weight throw with 41’3 1/2”.
Hagan, at 3,200 meters, prevailed in 9:28.14 as no one else broke the 10-minute mark, and he showed his versatility by also prevailing in the 600 in 1:25.26, where Gavin Kenna took third in 1:33.38.
Bennett Robb got a win, too, in the high jump, clearing 6’1” to beat Henninger’s Antwon Vann (5’11”) for the top spot.
Kenna went 4:45.65 for second place in the 1,600-meter run, with Michael Purvis (4:51.70) fourth. In the 4×400, Liverpool had Maltrin Ramadani, Daunte Wright, Jeff Sydney and Ayush Patel second in 3:54.50 to F-M’s winning 3:47.87, with Wright third in the triple jump by going 35’2 1/4”.
In the 4×200 relay, Josiah Dickens, Ny’Quez Madison and LaQuan Lemon joined Patel to get second place in 1:38.90 to J-D’s 1:37.27.
Dickens ran to third in the 300 in 39.52 seconds and was seventh in the 55 sprint, with Lemon ninth. Ethan LaMontagne was fourth in the pole vault, with Declan Fahy fifth.
