A new year brought more success and glory for the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team at an event named for one of its all-time legends.
During the afternoon session of Saturday’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena, the Bees earned 98.5 points, pulling clear of runner-up West Genesee’s total of 79 points.
In the first race of the day, the 3,200-meter run, Solomon Holden-Betts tore to victory in 10 minutes, 15.95 seconds, with Adam Kozman third in 10:52.08 as Holden-Betts also was second in the 1,600-meter run in 4:50.10, ahead of Kozman (5:16.85) in fifth place.
Owen Weaver went to the front in the 300-meter dash, his 37.72 seconds one-hundredth of a second ahead of the 37.73 from WG’s Chris Moser, with Weaver also second in the triple jump by going 39 feet 7 ¾ inches, ahead of Jackson Creelman (33’8 1/2”) in fifth place, and topping 5’6” to tie for third in the high jump.
Freshman Kellan Vannatta beat the field in the 600-meter run in 1:29.92 as Kyle Sheckler was fifth in 1:33.56. Jeff Ragonese took third in the 1,000-meter run in 2:45.50, with Jack McAllister fourth in 2:49.12 and Logan Hayes (2:54.69) claiming fifth place.
Logan Zapf, in 8.94 seconds, beat out Creelman (9.52) for fourth in the 55-meter hurdles. The Bees were fourth in the 4×400 relay in 4:18.52 and sixth in the 4×200 relay as Dylan Wertheim, clearing 8 feet, was third in the pole vault.
Amari Akins had a sixth-place weight throw of 38’7” as Adam Cuyler (36’8”) was seventh. Gibson Boudov, eighth in the weight throw, threw the shot put 35 feet to finish seventh, while Cuyler was 10th. Amir Akins was eighth in the 55-meter dash, with Nathan Glidden 10th in the long jump.
In the girls portion of the Arcaro meet, B’ville gained 89.33 points, putting it third behind Cazenovia’s 110 points and West Genesee’s 93 points.
Winning the 4×400, B’ville had Avamarie Davis, Kamryn Barton, Clare Horan and Madison Kennedy finish in 4:25.38, more than 15 seconds ahead of WG’s 4:41.80. Mia Pozzi joined Davis, Horan and Kennedy to win the 4×200 in 1:54.24.
From there, Kennedy went on to take the 300 in 44.49 seconds, with Kelsey Dwyer (45.81) fourth and Davis sixth, and Barton was victorious in the 600 in 1:49.94, ahead of Brianna Grosso’s third-place 1:54.11 and Adrianna Orlando in fifth place.
Active again, Sydney McKenney finished third in the 55 hurdles in 10.30 seconds, cleared 4’6” for fourth place in the high jump and had a third-place pole vault of 9 feet.
Rachel Pawelek had a second-place long jump of 14′ 3/4”. Pozzi took third in the 55 sprint in 7.91 seconds, with Pawelek eighth and Natalie Bartkowiak 10th.
Sophia Cavalieri was sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:42.52 as Pozzi and Julianna Gingrich tied for seventh in the shot put, Isabella Mitts was seventh in the weight throw and Erin Seitzer took eighth in the 1,000.
