DEWITT – As its 2021 schedule concluded, the Jamesville-DeWitt/Christian Brothers Academy boys swim team remained without a defeat and sported a 6-0 record.
J-D/CBA had no trouble in its Dec. 17 meet against visiting West Genesee, picking up enough points in the first five events to clinch a team victory on the way to defeating the Wildcats 96-81.
Nathaniel Wales broke the five-minute mark in the 500 freestyle, posting 4:58.53 after he had taken the 200 freestyle in 1:55.93 as part of a well-balanced team performance.
Misha Kubanov swam the 100 freestyle in 50.90 seconds ahead of Mark Bratslavsky’s 53.96 and Luke Marino’s 54.19 as Kubanov went on to post 1:08.42 in the 100 breaststroke. Bratslavsky put up 23.53 seconds in the 50 freestyle.
Bobby Diel went 1:00.92 in the 100 butterfly, with Matt Cappella going 2:31.41 in the 200 individual medley and Kyler Huyck swimming the 100 backstroke in 1:05.59.
Cameron Corona, with 193.05 points, edged Garrett Fuller (187.55) and Sean Rigdon (177.35) for top honors in diving as Bratslavsky, Marino, Huyck and Luke Henderson went 3:50.92 in the 400 freestyle relay. Kabunov, Malcolm Britz, Liam Wasserman and Gehrig Snyder posted 1:47.81 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Keeping this up against Cicero-North Syracuse last Tuesday night, J-D/CBA got some quick times throughout the meet as it put away the Northstars 89-70.
Wales, for example, tore through the 100 backstroke in 56.09 seconds to beat the 58.16 from C-NS’s Jacob Griffin as he also won the 200 freestyle in 1:54.91.
Diel also won twice, going 59.47 seconds in the 100 butterfly before he swam the 500 freestyle in 5:36.84 as Misha Kabunov put up 51.01 seconds in the 100 freestyle and swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.97.
Lesha Kabunov won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.59 before Corona earned 195.90 points to top Rigdon (177.82) and Fuller (166.50) in diving. Bratslavsky swam legs in both the 200 medley relay (1:48.11) and 200 freestyle relay (1:38.44) with Wales, Diel and the Kabunov brothers.
