AUBURN – Underway once more, the West Genesee boys swim team proved successful on the first day of December.
The Wildcats’ season opener at Auburn saw the Maroons win most of the races on the card, but WG’s superior depth led to an 89-73 victory.
Ryan Goshow earned the Wildcats’ lone individual first-place finish. In the 100-yard backstroke, Goshow finished in one minute, 11.47 seconds, edging the 1:11.64 from Auburn’s Matt Crounse, who had already won the 100 freestyle. Goshow also took second in the 200 individual medley.
Ryan Korzeniewski, David Martin, Seth Burlingame and Mason Reichert paired up for an uncontested victory in the 200 medley relay, going 2:16.65.
Tom Parisi twice finished second, posting times of 26.04 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 1:17.56 in the 100 breaststroke as Aiden Braun (200 freestyle), Angus Tarolli (100 butterfly), Matt Keiling (100 freestyle) and Jack Kilroy (500 freestyle) also had runner-up efforts.
For its home opener Tuesday, WG will welcome league favorite Fayetteville-Manlius before a Friday meet with Syracuse City at Nottingham High School.
