CENTRAL NEW YORK – A two-week break for the Fayetteville-Manlius girls swim team concluded with a triumphant return early last week that reinforced all of the notions of the Hornets’ general dominance.
When it defeated Cicero-North Syracuse 94-84 last Tuesday night at Cazenovia College, the Hornets ran its win streak to 56 consecutive meets and, by qualifying for multiple events in the state meet, made it a memorable Senior Night.
Emma Luttrell was one of those 10 seniors, and in the 200-yard individual medley she posted a time of two minutes, 12.63 seconds that beat the state qualifying standard.
Two of F-M’s relay sides are also bound for the state meet. Three seniors – Luttrell, Morgan Kingsley, Hali Seidberg – and sophomore Georgia Langan went 1:53.86 in the 200 medley relay.
Then, in the 200 freestyle relay, Seidberg, Luttrell, Kingsley and Langan tore to a time of 1:41.40, the third-fastest time in New York State this season.
F-M’s 400 freestyle relay quartet of Luttrell, Kingsley, Langan and Seidberg finished in 3:45.73, putting the Hornets eighth in the state standings so far.
Individually, senior Addie Antshel swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.21, with Langan, in 25.55 seconds, edging Kingsley (25.93) in the 50 freestyle as Elise Wratney won the 100 freestyle in 57.21 seconds.
