CENTRAL NEW YORK – Regular-season action concluded for the Cazenovia girls tennis team with a series of strong performances.
In particular, the Lakers were strong in last Monday’s 6-1 win over Manlius-Pebble Hill, which included a doubles sweep.
Three of those matches were contested, starting with Quinlan Emhoff and Megan Kuhn getting a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Sophia Menacho and Arielle Nemes.
Erin Kuhn and Katie Pavlechak nearly matched it, beating Ileana Anghel and Dahlila Nemes 6-1, 6-0, with Julia Knutsen and Emma Schwartz taking a bit longer to top Eden Hildebrandt and Fariel Migeed 6-3, 6-3.
Up in singles, Clare Douglas lost, 6-0, 6-1, to Amitees Fazelli, but Baylee Pierce rallied in three sets to top Caroline Mezzalingua 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 as Rachel Molloy handled Sabrina Loop 6-2, 6-3.
Facing Westhill a day later, the Lakers played single-set matches and beat the Warriors by that same 6-1 margin.
Sweeping the singles, Cazenovia had Pierce rout Mia Doss 10-1, Douglas top Katie Hagrman 10-2 and Molloy work her way past Olivia Antoine 10-6.
It continued in doubles when Emhoff and Kuhn won 10-5 over Jillian Eckert and Hannah Johnston, with Knutsen and Schwartz topping Delaney Carroll and Bridget Thornton 10-4 and, by that same score, Kuhn and Pavelchak handled Rachel Colucci and Kathleen Rogers.
Back on Sept. 24, Cazenovia had a non-league match against Clinton and shut out the Warriors 5-0, seeing Douglas with a single-set 8-2 decision over Maggie Bailey as Madden Cobb beat Lydia Helper 8-0. In the lone doubles match, Schwartz and Knutsen beat Karina Davis and Victoria Elafante 8-0.
Yet another Cazenovia win was earned Wednesday when it topped Homer 6-1 in another set of 10-game single-set matches.
The doubles teams of Knutsen-Schwartz, Emhoff-Megan Kuhn and Pavelchak-Erin Kuhn lost just one game apiece. Pierce dropped a 10-4 decision to Ella Spanbauer, but Molloy routed Molly Gallagher 10-1 and Douglas earned a 10-3 win over Emma Effinger.
Chittenango took on Westhill last Monday and, in single-set matches that went to 10 games, the Bears were able to win enough to edge the Warriors 4-3.
Savannah Drake topped Hagrman 10-4 in singles, with Sarah McKillip blanking Megan Dwyer 10-0. Allison Soulier and Anna Spencer paired to beat Doss and Thornton 10-3 as Brianna Crystal and Mya McLean-Wilson held off Delaney Carroll and Jillian Eckert 10-8.
Another win followed on Thursday, Chittenango dominating Pulaski 7-0 as Drake, McKillip and Maddy Douglas lost just one game in six sets of singles play. The doubles teams of Crystal-McLean-Wilson and Allison Bartozek-Michele LaTour earned shutouts as Soulier and Spencer won 6-1, 6-1 over Holly Pacyon and Isabella Pierce.
