CENTRAL NEW YORK – Through each of its first five matches, the Jamesville-DeWitt boys golf team had recorded lopsided victories.
That changed a bit last Monday afternoon at Oswego, where the Red Rams battled both a determined opponent and breezy conditions, but was able to prevail 196-202 over the Buccaneers.
Depth would prove important since Oswego’s Kevin Waters and Neil Roman tied for individual honors with 37 for nine holes, ahead of the 38 from J-D’s Ian Delpha.
But the Rams started to pull in front when Punn Chittaratler and Mitchell Archer each shot 39, with 40s from Blaise Anthis and Jackson Saroney topping the 43 from the Bucs’ Jack Hall and 45 from Lukas Cady.
Amid wet conditions two days later, J-D welcomed Cortland to Drumlins and made it seven wins in a row, turning back the Purple Tigers 196-213.
Saroney’s 35 beat Cortland’ Andrew Partigianoni (38) by three strokes, with Sam Ahn stepping up for the Rams with a 38 of his own. Delpha got a 39, while Chittaratlert shot 40 and Archer added a 44.
The echoes of the J-D-Oswego match were found again Friday as Christian Brothers Academy, defending its own perfect mark, barely held on to it against Homer, edging the Trojans 209-211 at Cortland Country Club.
With Homer’s Mitch Riter tearing his way to a 34, CBA had ground to make up, especially since it could not get any score better than Jack Gregory’s 40.
Joe Nicholson and Jack MacLachlan both posted 41 to equal the Trojans’ Jacob Roebush. Then Luke Snyder shot 43 and Dan Angelo added a 44, which made up the rest of the ground as Homer’s Lukas Quinn got a 42, but Tanner Douglass (46) and Dan Stiles (48) were behind the Brothers’ top five.
East Syracuse Minoa Blue stayed at the .500 mark (4-4) last Tuesday when it split a three-team meet at the Links at Erie Village, beating Syracuse City 222-263, but finishing behind Cortland’s top total of 207 as Andrew Partigianoni (37) and Kooper Kanabe (38) led the Purple Tigers.
Braedon Smith led the Spartans with a 39. Aaron Reynolds contributed a 41, with Zach Johnson adding a 46 as Logan Welch and Zack Harmon both posted 48.
A three-team match on Friday at Walden Oaks had ESM Blue shoot 223 to beat ESM Orange’s 268 but trail a 197 from Cortland. Harmon improved to a 40, ahead of Smith (42) and Welch (46), but behind a Purple Tigers trio that broke 40 led by a strong 35 from Andrew Partigianoni.
Fayetteville-Manlius Green was supposed to have four matches last week, including ones against Cicero-North Syracuse Blue and Baldwinsville, but a combination of factors, including weather, cut short that schedule.
As for F-M’s White team, it lost a close 209-213 decision to West Genesee Blue last Tuesday at Westvale. Andrew Ahn and Dylan Friedman both shot 41, trailing the Wildcats’ Max DeMass (39) and Anthony Pirro (40), while Dan Stark and Parker Kaczorowski each posted 43 and Tyler Burns had a 45.
Returning to Woodcrest on Friday, F-M White edged Liverpool 218-219 as Ahn’s 39 was one better than the 40 from the Warriors’ Bradley Cole. Then Stark shot 42, with Burns getting a 44 and the Hornets needing a 45 from Kaczorowski and a 46 from Duncan McDaniel to hang on.
