CENTRAL NEW YORK – After the Fayetteville-Manlius girls swim team defeated Jamesville-DeWitt on Sept. 17, it would only have one more meet for the rest of the month.
That came when the Hornets defeated Auburn 88-57 last Wednesday night, and here most of F-M’s top swimmers did not compete in individual events.
Instead, they concentrated on relays, where Emma Luttrell, Morgan Kingsley, Hali Seidberg and Georgia Langan swam the 200-yard medley relay in one minute, 55.38 seconds.
As for the 200 freestyle relay, Langan, Kingsley, Luttrell and Elise Wratney posted 1:58.57, with that same quartet earning a time of 3:53.63 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Kristen Iles got a victory in the 200 freestyle in 2:11.10, while Kate Millson went 2:31.28 to claim the 200 individual medley. Libby Reed, in 1:17.45, edged Megan Elliott (1:18.68) in the 100 butterfly.
F-M was now off until an Oct. 5 meet with Cicero-North Syracuse at Cazenovia College, but J-D was back in action Thursday against Syracuse City and the Red Rams prevailed 86-76.
Lucy Heflin led the Red Rams, posting the quickest times in both the 100 butterfly (1:15.62) and 100 breaststroke (1:19.36). Gwen Lister was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.54 and swam with J-D’s 200 medley relay team that posted 2:10.55.
Abby McGuire, with 181.95 points, held off Grace Evans (174.40) for diving honors. Jennifer Setek took first in the 100 freestyle in 1:06.36, with Olivia Ogata taking the 50 freestyle in 28.13 seconds. Margaret Lister had the best 500 freestyle time of 6:25.42.
Meanwhile, Christian Brothers Academy, who had not competed since a Sept. 9 defeat to J-D, returned last Wednesday against New Hartford and lost, 105-73, to the Spartans.
Sofia Kassab’s victory in diving with 180.05 points was the lone interruption in a string of New Hartford wins in both individual events and relays.
Josie Lachut was a close second (1:09.54) to the Spartans’ Aubeen Park (1:08.91) in the 100 butterfly, with Madison Cecilia second in the 500 freestyle (6:15.63) and Anna Fuller second in the 100 backstsroke in 1:10.46. Emma Burke (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Isabella Freiberger (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle) led New Hartford with two wins apiece.
