ONONDAGA COUNTY – Back from a dominant weekend at Oneonta, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls soccer team tried to keep itself undefeated against local foes – which it did, but only for one more match.
The Hornets went to Liverpool last Wednesday night and found out just how much the Warriors had improved this fall, needing to make a late comeback to preserve a 2-2 draw.
Lauren Clark scored in the first half, but with goals by Jailyn Parrotte and Alexa Marsh, Liverpool went out in front 2-1, and tried to hang on.
It took Clark converting again in the second half to pull it even, but through the rest of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime, it stayed tied as Ryan Dauksza and Ashley Seidberg gained assists on the F-M goals.
Alarming as that result was, it got worse last Saturday when the Hornets, on its home turf, took a 3-0 defeat to the West Genesee Wildcats.
Though WG had fewer opportunities, it took full advantage of them, seeing Sofia Snyder, Maria Snyder and Ellie McMahon pick up goals and Jenna Orr stopped all eight F-M shots she faced.
Jamesville-DeWitt, whose lone defeat came to F-M on Sept. 4, won its fourth game in a row last Tuesday against Cortland, steadily stifling the Purple Tigers on the way to a 3-0 shutout.
Those three Red Rams goals came from three different players – Lindsey Hildreth, Caroline Stone and Brooke Bort, and J-D’s defense never let Cortland respond.
The win streak reached five last Thursday when J-D handled Syracuse United 7-1, sprinting out to a 4-0 edge by halfitme led by Hildreth, who scored twice and got a pair of assists.
Megan Baker had one goal and one assist, with Brooke Hulbert, Alice O’Connor and Rori Leach also converting. Stone and Amber Bates picked up assists.
Christian Brothers Academy dropped a 4-0 decision to Homer earlier in the week, the Brothers unable to contain Trojans forward Gracie Patriarco, who earned a three-goal hat trick and assisted on Sarah Sovocool’s tally.
Manlius-Pebble Hill fell 4-1 to Tully last Monday afternoon. Lola Gostin had the Trojans lone goal, but Emma Byrne and Alexa Shay both scored twice for the victorious Black Knights to overcome Kate Chaffee’s 22 saves.
Having lost its first four games, the Trojans finally got into the win column last Thursday afternoon, working through the rain to shut out LaFayette 3-0.
Katherine Mezzalingua led the way with a pair of goals. Abby Hinshaw also converted, with Maggie Stokes-Rees picking up an assist. Chaffee stopped all five shots she faced.
