ONONDAGA COUNTY – Having climbed to the top of the SCAC Metro division standings with wins over West Genesee and Baldwinsville, the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue boys golf team now wanted to stay there.
It didn’t help to have the Northstars’ match against Fayetteville-Manlius Green postponed early in the week. But that didn’t derail C-NS Blue for long.
Back in action last Wednesday at Foxfire, the Northstars completed a regular-season sweep of Liverpool, topping the Warriors 202-231 to go with an earlier victory on Aug. 31.
Sean Lawler and Drew Kippen tied for the top spot, each shooting 38 for nine holes, with Kaeden Hacker close behind as he posted a 39.
Jack Wolanski, with a 43, completed a top-four sweep as Riley Rumble’s 44 equaled Liverpool’s low round by Owen Michaud. The Warriors also got 45s from Bryce Calderwood and Owen Salanger, with Dominick Osbeck and Bradley Cole both finishing at 48.
Liverpool has vastly improved as the season has progressed, even if its 1-5-1 record going into last week didn’t reflect that progress.
This was on display again in last Monday’s 188-199 defeat to West Genesee Gold at Westvale, where the Warriors had three of the top five scores.
Kyle Kirkby’s season-best 37 only trailed the Wildcats’ Connor Christie, who had a 36. Cole and Michaud both had 38 to equal WG’s Owen Zoanetti, while Osbeck had a 41 and Salanger shot 45.
A narrow 218-219 defeat to Fayetteville-Manlius White on Friday saw Cole shoot a 40 at Woodcrest, behind only the 39 from the Hornets’ Andrew Ahn. Owen Michaud was third with a 41, with Osbeck getting a 43, with Brady Michaud’s 47 and Kirkby’s 48 trailing the F-M White finishers.
As for C-NS’s younger Green team, it took a 215-241 defeat to West Genesee Blue last Monday afternoon at Northern Pines.
Joe DeGroat and Austin Mazzoli both shot 46, but that trailed five Wildcats led by Ashton Fassinger and Lincoln Christopher, who both posted 42. Anthony Ciciarelli had a 48, ahead of Gavin Goettel’s 50 and Michael DeGroat’s 51.
