CENTRAL NEW YORK – A six-match win streak for the Cazenovia girls tennis team was halted by Christian Brothers Academy on Sept. 17, but it didn’t take long for the Lakers to get back on top.
When Cazenovia topped Jordan-Elbridge 6-1 last Monday afternoon, one singles and one doubles match was forfeited, and Baylee Pierce lost in singles 6-0, 6-0 to the Eagles’ Anita Brot.
Dominating everything else, the Lakers saw Rachel Molloy beat Lizzie Conrad 6-2, 6-2, while in doubles Juila Knutsen and Emma Schwartz blitzed Mia Dissinger and Jillian Ferris 6-1, 6-0.
In dual 6-0, 6-0 shutouts, Quinlan Emhoff and Megan Kuhn routed Mary McGinn and Madelyn Mott, with Erin Kuhn and Katie Pavelchak taking out Emily Chiaramonte and Amy Lin.
After last Wednesday’s match with Westhill was rained out, Cazenovia could look ahead to making up that contest Tuesday in between matches against Manlius-Pebble Hill and Homer that close out the regular season.
Chittenango got its own 6-1 victory back on Monday, the Bears handling Bishop Grimes as three of the four doubles matches ended up as forfeits. Alison Soulier and Anna Spencer did play, though, and blanked the Cobras’ duo of Ashlee Brisson and Kristina Kovar 6-0, 6-0.
Grimes earned its lone point in singles when Sofia Ziankoski beat Savannah Drake 6-3 6-1, but Chittenango countered with Sarah McKillip topping Riley Broton 6-0, 6-2 as Maddy Douglas beat Julia Simo 6-4, 6-0.
When the Bears topped Jordan-Elbridge 6-1 a day later, three of the matches were forfeited. McKillip, playing singles, roared past Lizzie Conrad 6-0, 6-1, while Soulier and Spencer blanked Mia Disinger and Madelyn Mott 6-0, 6-0. Drake, paired with Mya Vincent, routed Emily Chiaramonte and Amy Lin 6-0, 6-1.
