ONONDAGA COUNTY – Once again, the first Saturday in October means that the Badwinsville girls volleyball team will be holding its Fall Swing Tournament.
A large pool of local teams, plus some from across New York State, will make their way to the Baker High School gymnasiums for group play.
As to last week’s action, B’ville hosted West Genesee last Monday night and, after a slightly close first set, got away to sweep the Wildcats 25-21, 25-16, 25-17.
Unstoppable at the net, Kyrah Wilbur recorded 15 kills, with Gianna May and Jayda Pyle getting five kills apiece and Sadie Phelps adding four kills, to go with four aces and nine digs.
Passing to all of them, Madison MacKaig finished with 28 assists as Veronica Dorosh got seven digs. WG had 22 assists from Sonya Dunham, nine kills from Cami Zajac and six kills from Cameron Rosenthal.
During last Wednesday’s 25-19, 25-21, 25-8 victory over Corcoran, the Bees got nine kills from Wilbur as Phelps, Eva Pawelek, Nela Loftin and Madelyn Diep had three kills apiece. MacKaig picked up 14 assists as she and Katelyn Brecht both produced four aces.
The struggles for Baldwinsville’s boys volleyball team continued last Tuesday as it fell in three sets to Living Word Academy.
Taking the match 25-20, 25-12 and 25-21,the Saints had Matt Rudisky pick up 25 assists to go with three kills and three aces, while Jacob Mazur and Riddick Robinson worked up front and had seven kills apiece.
On B’ville’s side, only Liam Ramsey had more than one kill, amassing seven by match’s end. Everett Buckner picked up 11 assists and Brayden Kudarauskas gained 10 digs.
Thursday’s match with Oswego nearly provided B’ville with an end to this early-season skid, but it lost in five sets to the Buccaneers.
Twice, the Bees went in front, taking the first set 25-18 and a close third set 25-23. Both times, Oswego rallied, getting its own 25-18 win in the second set and rolling through the fourth set 25-14.
In the final-set race to 15, the Bucs prevailed 15-11, led by Zach Chamberlain’s 30 assists, six digs and six kills as Brennan Tynan got 18 kills, with Chris Cote and Ethan LoCastro also earning six kills.
Brendan Micho put up 31 assists and Kudarauskas gained 16 digs on the back line as Anthony Hildreth added nine digs. Up front, Ramsey earned 13 kills, with Gidson Boudov adding 11 kills and Caleb Way earning six kills.
