CENTRAL NEW YORK – Each of the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse girls cross country teams was victorious in their respective Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division openers on a soggy Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors traveled to West Genesee, where it would claim both sides of its race, sweeping both the Wildcats and the Henninger Black Knights.
Liverpool’s girls side handled West Genesee 19-41 and topped Henninger 15-50, with a close race at the top between Kaleigh Buck and Eva Woodworth.
Buck won in 21:15, four seconds ahead of Woodworth’s 21:19, with Addyson Graham third in 21:42. Meghan Moyer, posting 21:58, finished sixth, with Taylor Page seventh (22:09) and Addison Ziegler eighth (22:21) as Kara Nash finished in 23:14.
As for C-NS, it would go to Baldwinsville, where it , but saw the boys Northstars fall to the Bees 18-43.
Kate Putman led the C-NS girls past B’ville 17-44, tearing through the Durgee Junior High School course in 18:54 to beat Gabby Putman, who edged Marissa Navarra for second place though posted 20:13.
Kate Capone, in 21:39, made her way to fifth place, with Cameron Sisk sixth in 21:52. Hannah Reichard and Kathleen Harbold both posted 22:16 and Allison Moran finished in 21:52.
The boys race featured Ashton Murdock leading the Northstars by posting a time of 18:01.4, third behind the B’ville duo of Solomon Holden-Betts (17:52.1) and Ryan Quinn (17:54.2).
Then three more Bees crossed the finish before Gavin McAllister earned seventh place in 18:24, with Nathan Connors (18:30)also earning a top-10 finish.
Both Liverpool and C-NS would make their way to Chenango Valley State Park Saturday for the McDaniel-Baxter Invitational on the same course that will host the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships in November.
And the girls Warriors were triumphant in Varsity Race 6, earning 56 points to runner-up East Aurora’s 75 as all five of its top runners finished within the top 20 team runners.
Woodworth got to fifth place in the team event (seventh overall) in 20:38.1. Graham, 10th among team runners in 21:37.3, beat out Moyer’s 21:47.2 and Buck’s 21:49.5 in the next two spots as Ziegler clinched it with an 18th-place team clocking of 22:34 flat.
C-NS won the girls Varsity Race 4 as Kate Putman, in 19:15 flat, made her way to third place. Gabby Putman was fifth among team runners (seventh overall) in 19:34.5, with Navarra 12th in the team race in 21:10.5. Sisk posted 21:32.6 and Capone (21:41.2) was just ahead of Katy Harbold’s 22:17.8.
For the Liverpool boys, Ryan Hagan posted the third-fastest boys time of the entire day, winning his race in 16:17.7 and helping the Warriors finish with 61 points, a close second to Tri-Valley’s 59.
Gavin Kenna took ninth place in 17:42.2, with Jack Sherlock 10th in 17:50 flat. Michael Purvis made his way to 19th place in 18:38.2 and Jacob Makhlouf was 22nd in 18:40.2.
Meanwhile, the C-NS boys took third place in the East Syracuse Minoa Invitational, led by Murdock, who was sixth in 18:35.7. Connors, in 19:03.3, was 12th overall, with James McConnell 18th in 19:21.5. McAllister (19:47.6) beat out Justin Asch’s 19:49.8 and Aaron Dunn’s 19:50.1. Jake Roman posted 19:53 flat and Evan Nobles finished in 20:07.8.
