ONONDAGA COUNTY – What the early weeks of the area high school boys volleyball season did was get the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool boys volleyball teams safely to their first head-to-head match without a blemish – which they did, making Tuesday night’s showdown even more meaningful.
Liverpool had already swept Baldwinsville when C-NS took its own match against the Bees last Monday night and swiftly worked its way to a 25-10, 25-16, 25-14 victory.
Robbie Siechen, picking up 14 assists, and Zach D’Agostino, with seven assists, fed a front line where Joe Seliger had eight kills, Gabe LaRobardiere got five kills and two blocks and Reece Congel added four kills.
A day later, C-NS handled Syracuse City 25-5, 25-22, 25-13, with Carter King picking up a team-best seven kills. Congel had six kills, with LaRobardiere getting four kills and three aces. Siechen got 17 assists and D’Agostino had seven assists.
This took place as Liverpool hosted Fayetteville-Manlius, and again it proved to be a sweep, the Warriors handling the Hornets in three sets that each ended with identical 25-18 scores.
Elliott DeForge managed 12 kills, five aces and six digs, with Anthony Pezzino getting 11 kills and six aces to go with his seven digs.
Nolan Feidt dished out 24 assists, adding three blocks and a pair of aces. Jackson Furr finished with seven digs as Anderw Li (seven kills) and Jaden Duggal (22 assists) paced F-M.
When C-NS ventured out of league play again last Friday to face a Section V opponent, it prevailed in four sets over Rochester McQuaid.
A steady first set produced a 25-16 win, and while the second set was closer, theNorthstars took it 25-21. Narrowly avoiding a sweep, the Knights did win a long third set 29-27 and made the fourth set close, too.
But C-NS finished it off 25-22, seeing Siechen earn 30 assists to go with five digs, three kills, four blocks and two aces.
LaRobardiere managed 11 kills, four blocks and five digs, while King gained nine kills and four digs. Seliger had seven kills, two blocks and five digs, with Congel and Peter Gill earning four kills apiece.
After the match between C-NS and Liverpool on Tuesday, the Northstars meet Living Word Academy and Midlakes on back-to-back nights as Liverpool takes on Syracuse City Thursday.
