ONONDAGA COUNTY – Plenty was on the line when the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue boys golf team when it had back-to-back matches against West Genesee and Baldwinsville last week, with first place in the SCAC Metro division in the balance.
And the Northstars proved quite impressive when it confronted the Wildcats at Westvale Golf Club last Tuesday afternoon, sweeping the top four individual spots on the way to a189-208 victory.
Sam Thompson led with a nine-hole 36, Sean Lawler adding a 37. Jack Wolanski and Devin Kellogg, each shooting 38, tied for third, with Drew Kippen’s 40 matching the low round by WG Gold’s Ryan Till.
Then it was the battle with B’ville at Lakeshore Country Club, and though the scores were not as low, C-NS Blue again emerged triumphant, topping the Bees 202-209.
Lawler’s 38 was enough for individual honors, one better than the 39 from Kaeden Hacker, who matched B’ville’s low round by Aidan Farmer.
Then Kellogg and Wolanski both shot 41 to equal the Bees’ Trey Ordway, and Kippen clinched it when his 43 matched Austin McClintic, Nate MacGregor and Aiden Motala from B’ville’s side.
As a tune-up, C-NS Blue defeated Fayetteville-Manlius White 194-224 last Monday at Woodcrest, with Lawler and Carter Costello asharing individual honors, each shooting 37.
Cullen Scott had a 39, with Scott Thompson adding a 40. Wolanski’s 41 completed a top-five sweep as the Hornets were led by Tyler Burns’ 43.
Liverpool was 0-4-1 prior to its match with C-NS Green last Tuesday at Foxfire, but the Warriors were finally able to climb into the win column when it beat the younger group of Northstars 209-238.
Three Liverpool golfers tied at the top as Dominick Osbeck, Owen Michaud and Kyle Kirkby each shot 40. Bradley Cole’s 43 was followed by Owen Salanger’s 46.
On C-NS Green’s side, Gavin Goettel shot 43 to match Cole, with Joe DeGroat getting a 45. Brandon Marchitto’s 49 beat out Austin Mazzoli (50) and Declan Sullivan (51).
Falling back on Thursday, Liverpool lost, 210-213, to West Genesee Blue at Westvale. Osbeck and Michaud shot 39 to share individual honors, but Salanger (47) and Kirkby (48) were further back as every Wildcats player shot between 41 and 47 to go in front.
