ONONDAGA COUNTY – When it went through its altered and abbreviated spring schedule without a blemish, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys volleyball team dropped just one set – to its neighbors from Liverpool.
Now the two sides are set to battle again for larger stakes since the Section III and state Division I tournaments in October and November have been restored.
They opened in the same venue on Sept. 4, part of a joint scrimmage at Baldwinsville featuring most of the area’s top sides.
Then the regular season got underway, first for Liverpool, who proved quite impressive as it hosted Baldwinsville and took little time sweeping the Bees 25-12, 25-13, 25-18.
Nolan Feldt set the Warriors’ tone, the senior setter putting away five aces to go with his 19 assists and four digs.
Often, Feldt’s passes went to Anthony Pezzino, who earned 12 kills. Jacob Works gained four kills, with Elliott DeForge adding three kills and six digs as Jackson Furr had eight digs.
C-NS, who would take on B’ville this week along with Syracuse and Fayetteville-Manlius, had its opener last Friday against Rush-Henrietta, from Section V, and proved impressive again, sweeping the Royal Comets in three sets.
Each of the three sets was decided 25-12 in the Northstars’ favor, with Robbie Siechen a steady presence on the back line thanks to his 29 assists as Connor Heymann and C.J. Cartier had four digs apiece.
Joe Seliger and Gabe LaRobardiere led up front, with Seliger getting 12 kills and LaRobardiere contributing 10 kills plus four aces. Carter King contributed six kills and four digs, with Reece Congel adding four kills.
