ONONDAGA COUNTY – Finally in a head-to-head meet this spring, the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field teams wasted little time making a statement to its Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division challengers.
The Northstars swept both sides of last Wednesday’s showdown with Fayetteville-Manlius at Bragman Stadium, and the girls 75-62 win over the Hornets, saw a school record fall.
That came from Hannah Boyle, who in the 400-meter dash dazzled fellow athletes and spectators by tearing to victory in 58.82 seconds to establish that school mark.
Over in the boys meet between C-NS and F-M, the Northstars had plenty of standout performances as it accumulated a 103-34 victory over the Hornets.
For example, there was senior Tyler Murray going to the 400-meter dash and winning in 53.38 seconds before he got first place in the 200-meter dash in 24.34 seconds.
Fellow senior Maxwell White unleashed a discus throw of 100 feet 7 inches to go with a top shot put toss of 46’7” as Gavin McAllister won the pole vault, clearing 8’6” and Jack Tschopp topped 5’4” in the high jump.
Sam Nessel needed 11.8 seconds to prevail in the 100-meter dash, just as Matt LeClair covered 800 meters in 2:01.53 and Carlton Garnes was first in the 110 hurdles in 16.17 seconds.
Competing again on Friday C-NS handled Henninger 106-29 on the boys side and 116-16 on the girls side.
LeClair ran the 800 in 2:02.1 and the 1,600 in 4:46.5 to win both races for the boys Northstars as Murray claimed the 400 sprint in 53.3 seconds and Isaiah Wright won the 110 hurdles in 16.3 seconds.
Garnes sprinted to first place in the 200 in 24.4 seconds, with McAllister topping 7 feet in the pole vault. Jacob Schmid was first in the 400 hurdles in 1:05.9, with White tossing the shot put 43’7 1/2”.
Liverpool, before it faced Baldwinsville and C-NS in back-to-back meets, swept Nottingham 128-13 on the girls side and 97-42 on the boys side last Wednesday afternoon.
Eva Woodworth, Sophia Recuparo and Sophie Hoy won two events apiece for the Liverpool girls, with Woodworth running the 800 meters in 2:29.7 and the 1,500 in 5:04.3 to go with Meghan Moyer’s victory in the 3,000-meter run.
Recuparo cleared 7’6” in the pole vault and topped 4’6” in the high jump, while Hoy claimed the 400 sprint and 400 hurdles.
Alencia Daoust had a top long jump of 13’10 1/4”, with Kaitlyn Burt going 17.0 seconds in the 100 hurdles and Janea Hamilton-Brown winning the shot put with a toss of 29’10”. Emily Fenner threw the discus 68’4”.
The boys meet included Jake McGowan taking the 1,600 in 4:46 flat and the 3,200 in 10:21.9 as Aiden Meyer ran 800 meters in 2:18.7.
Noah Smith threw the discus 97 feet and the shot put 34’6” as Bennett Robb cleared 5’10” in the high jump and Declan Fahy topped 8 feet in the pole vault. Jeff Sydney won the 400 hurdles in 1:08.7 and Luke McRae took the 110 hurdles.
