ONONDAGA COUNTY – As it turned out, the Cicero-North Syracuse softball team’s pair of impressive wins over Liverpool merely served as a harbinger to more success in the week that followed.
Hosting West Genesee last Monday at the Gillette Road complex, the Northstars hit at will, especialy Giana Wameling, as it put away the Wildcats 22-3.
Wameling went to the plate five times, recording four hits. That included a home run, double and two walks as she finished the day with seven RBIs and scored all five times she got on base, including a walk.
Hannah Mingle went four-for-four, all singles, walked twice and got three RBIs, with Sydney Nesci, Riley Barrett, Jenna Mills, Nicolette Kasch and Megan Johnston also driving in runs as part of C-NS’s 17-hit attack.
C-NS was, perhaps, more impressive a day later against a top Class B foe, Marcellus, containing the Mustangs’ potent lineup while roaring to an 8-2 victory.
Ormond only allowed four hits and a walk, striking out eight while different C-NS hitters went to the forefront.
Kasch singled, tripled and drove in three runs, while Nesci singled, double and tripled. Alayna Harbaugh matched Nesci’s trio of hits and drove in two runs as Wameling singled twice and scored twice.
Making it three wins in as many days, C-NS blanked Baldwinsville 11-0 on Wednesday, with Ormond limiting the Bees to five hits and two walks while striking out 10.
Wameling and Mingle both went three-for-three to pace a 13-hit attack, all of which were singles. Mingle scored three times as she, along with Harbaugh and Danielle Filapello had two RBIs apiece. Ormond, Nesci and Wameling drove in single runs.
Up against Fayetteville-Manlius on Saturday, it was yet another lopsided shutout, this time with C-NS nearly doubling its B’ville output as it humbled the Hornets 20-0 in five innings.
While Ormond was striking out 10 and keeping F-M off the board despite its five hits, Haley Campenello hit her first home run of the season and finished with four RBIs.
Five different players – Campanello, Harbaugh, Nesci, Wameling and Filapello – got three hits apiece, Harbaugh doubling and driving in five runs as Filapello got three RBIs and Nesci had two RBIs.
Liverpool, meanwhile, was upended 2-1 by Baldwinsville last Monday afternoon to fall to 1-3 on the season.
All the Warriors could manage was two hits, one each by Emma Terzini and Haley Miles, off Bees pitcher Taylor Tripodi, who struck out eight.
Terzini drove in Liverpool’s lone run, but B’ville overcame a solid pitching effort from Cassie Wiggins by having Bella Nardzan earn a pair of hits and Jordan Martin earn an RBI.
Quickly, the Warriors shook this off and, in a chilly game against F-M 24 hours later, finally unleashed its bats in the course of a 12-1 victory over the Hornets.
All told, Liverpool banged out 16 hits, three each by Haley Miles, Sarah Miles and Mackenzie Frani, with Sarah Miles doubling twice and driving in three runs as Frani also got three RBIs.
Julia Wike returned and had an impact, her double and single producing a team-best four RBIs. Lauren Ragonese also drove in a run as Frani pitched and amassed 10 strikeouts while limiting F-M to six hits.
