Right away, the Marcellus and Westhill girls track and field teams would square off as they ended their 22-plus month wait to return to full competition.
And the Mustangs got the best of it, handling the Warriors 90-32 as part of a series of meets involving local sides through the last days of April.
Ashley Drotar spent most of March and April putting together a stellar season for the Skaneateles girls swim team that led to a Section III Class C championship.
Right after that was done, Drotar joined the girls track and field Lakers, who opened last Wednesday with an 83-41 victory over Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, with Drotar in a featured role.
In the long jump, Drotar prevailed by going 12 feet, one inch better than teammate Marina Kilz, and she was also second in the 100-meter dash (14.9 seconds) as Grace Conan won in 14.1 seconds.
Maddie Wright finished first in the 100 hurdles in 19.7 seconds and also won the400 hurdles in 1:25.6 as Lily Yengo took the 1,500-meter run in 6:09.4. Lily Coleman got a win in the 800-meter run in 2:44.3 and went 30’11 1/2” in the triple jump.
Clare Keady, with a time of 1:10.5, beat out Hope Cross-Jaya (1:16.4) in the 400-meter dash, with Cross-Jaya, Conan, Coleman and Catie Coyne posting 4:55 flat in the 4×400 relay as Caroline Wells and Lily Arias joined Coleman and Cross-Jaya to run the 4×800 in 12:30.7.
Skanetaeles would sweep both sides of this meet with APW, the boys Lakers prevailing 86-36 as Max Paciorek won three events, going 1:09.6 in the 400 hurdles and 18.4 seconds in the 110 hurdles while also clearing 5’6” in the high jump.
Ben Euto swept the throwing events, heaving the discus 91’11” and the shot put 41’9”as Jack Phillips tore to times of 11.7 seconds in the 100 and 24.3 seconds in the 200.
Joe Norris (800, 2:15.7), Caleb Bender (1,600, 4:55.2) and Will Swartz (3,200, 12:07.2) swept the distance races as Norris joined Bender, Matt Persampieria and Nick Cerimeli to go 9:48.2 in the 4×800. Norris, Matt Persampieri, Braden Gryzlo and Ryan Persampieri won the 4×400 in 4:16.2.
Each of the West Genesee teams lost to Liverpool last Wednesday, the boys taking a 75.5-62.5 defeat while the girls Wildcats fell to the Warriors 105-30.
Dominick Burris gave WG’s boys team wins in the 100 in 11.4 seconds and the long jump by going 17’7 1/2”. Brandon Scott had a top triple jump of 36’3”, while Connor Scott tore through the 200 in 23.0 seconds.
The Wildcats also won two of three relays, with Burns, the Scotts and Exavier Brumfield going 45.1 seconds in the 4×100 as Bryce Bort and Chris Moser joined the Scotts with a top 4×400 time of 3:42.6.
In the girls meet, WG’s victories both came in the throwing events. Vivian Youmans had a discus toss of 86’5” and Alexis Rydelek claimed the shot put by going 24’9”.
Jordan-Elbridge opened its season against Hannibal, with the boys Eagles taking a 90-30 defeat to the Warriors, though Alden Lewis did give the Eagles a victory in the 200 sprint in 25.1 seconds. Austin Calkins led Hannibal with a sweep of the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.
