CAZENOVIA – Though they had to wait longer than usual, a pair of Cazenovia High School students would join the Fayetteville-Manlius girls swim team in an undefeated run to league and Section III honors.
Junior Morgan Kingsley and freshman Kate Millson both swam for the Hornets, who use Cazenovia College’s pool as a home venue and knocked off all nine of its opponents in head-to-head meets.
And it was capped on April 24 by F-M, already the regular-season champions in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division, defeating fellow unbeaten Christian Brothers Academy 116-70.
At key parts of the season, Kingsley played a central role, which was illustrated best in the CBA meet that also served as F-M’s virtual qualifier for the sectional Class A championships.
Winning the 200-yard individual medley, Kingsley finished in exactly two minutes, 18 seconds, improving upon her previous 2:19.97 achieved two weeks earlier against Liverpool and part of a 1-2-3 sweep with F-M teammates Addie Antshel (2:20.88) and Katie Ottaviano (2:23.22).
Also starring in the 100 breaststroke, Kingsley posted her best time of the spring against CBA, finishing at 1:09.61, which put her second in the section behind the 1:06.45 from the Brothers’ Lauren Kelly.
In the 50 freestyle, Kingsley went 25.17 seconds in the F-M meet, exactly the same as teammate Georgia Langan, and was part of a winning 200 freestyle relay with Langan, Hannah Kellogg and Emma Luttrell, who posted 1:40.77.
Also swimming this season in the 100 butterfly, Kingsley had her best time of 1:07.61 on April 21 in a meet against Baldwinsville.
Millson first swam on March 23 in F-M’s 99-79 victory over Jamesville-DeWitt, where she posted times of 2:22.71 in the 200 freestyle and 6:01.41 in the 500 freestyle.
Gradually, Millson’s times improved as the spring went on, capped by the CBA meet where, in the 500 freestyle, her clocking of 5:54.38 gave the Hornets fourth-place points.
In that April 21 meet against B’ville, Millson went 2:16.59 in the 200 freestyle, matching her quickest time from five days earlier against West Genesee and again leading to fourth-place points for F-M. She also went 2:31.29 in the 200 IM, 28.36 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 1:19.07 in the 100 butterfly.
