ONONDAGA COUNTY – It only figures that, in order to complete a perfect season, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys volleyball team might need to defeat the only side to take a set from them this spring.
Liverpool is quite eager for next Wednesday night’s match against the Northstars after the battle it gave them in four sets when they first met April 2 – the first time since 2015 the Warriors had won any set against C-NS.
Nearly three weeks later, the two sides both arrive in good form, each of them having earned two victories this week and not dropping a set in any of them.
Matching its March 22 sweep of Baldwinsville on Tuesday, the Warriors won 25-15, 25-11, 25-18 over the Bees this time around as Elliott DeForge continued to produce on Liverpool’s front line with his 11 kills, to go with five aces and eight digs.
Anthony Pezzino had five kills and six digs, with Anthony Caimano adding four kills. Jackson Furr got 10 digs as Quinn Moore, along with his five digs, dished out 21 assists.
That same night, C-NS tore past Central Square 25-13, 25-8, 25-12, getting eight aces from Carter King to go with his four digs and two kills.
Robbie Siechen led with 21 assists as Brandon Millias added 10 assists. Joe Seliger made his extensive court time count as he and Gabe LaRobardiere each produced eight kills, with Nick Espinoza adding four kills and Pete Gill getting three kills.
In Thursday night’s matches, Liverpool was challenged by Living Word Academy but, once it won the opening set 25-22, it gradually took control and went on to beat the Lions 25-18 and 25-14 in the next two sets.
Pezzino paced the Warriors’ front line with 11 kills and three blocks, with Caimano adding four kills. Moore mixed in 19 assists and four kills as Joe Sacco had a team-best nine digs, just ahead of Furr’s total of eight digs.
C-NS, meanwhile, went for 12 in a row against Baldwinsville and took out the Bees 25-9, 25-14, 25-10, with Millias serving up seven aces to go with his 16 assists and five digs.
Eleven different Northstars earned at least one kill, with none more than the five put up by Espinoza and Gabe LaRobardiere, who added three blocks. Kevin Felasco and Reece Congel had four kills apiece, with Trace LaRobardiere picking up five digs.
Next Monday, C-NS has one more encounter with East Syracuse Minoa, while Liverpool meets Oswego on Tuesday before its finale with the Northstars.
