ONONDAGA COUNTY – Putting up some of the best performances in Section III this season, the Christian Brothers Academy girls swim team moved to 2-0 last Tuesday by defeating New Hartford 95-85.
In the course of the meet, CBA’s Kayla Newman set new sectional marks in two events. First, she went to the 200-yard freestyle and, in one minute, 56.20 seconds, went to the top of the standings, holding off the 2:00.85 from the Spartans’ Emma Burke.
Then, int the longer 500 freestyle, Newman won in 5:16.45, again the best time in the section. She also would pair with Darien Tompkins, Ella Zaryski and Jenna Filahn to win the 400 freesetyle relay in 4:01.08.
Meanwhile, Lauren Kelly put up the best performance in the section so far in the 100 breaststroke, her time of 1:07.47 more than 11 seconds ahead of New Hartford’s Subeen Park (1:18.90) as Kelly also won the 100 freestyle in 55.01 seconds.
Tompkins pulled away to win the 50 freestyle in 25.01 seconds as Zaryski won the 100 backstroke in 1:07.47. In the 100 butterfly, Tompkins, in 59.90 seconds, was just behind Burke’s 59.52.
To open the meet, Kelly, Tompkins, Zaryski and Erin Nardella were victorious in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:59.32 to New Hartford’s 2:02.95.
Back in action last Wednesday afternoon, Fayetteville-Manlius met Auburn, prevailing again, 60-58, as Emma Luttrell and Morgan Kingsley led the Hornets’ efforts.
Luttrell nearly broke the two-minute mark in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 2:00.40, and would post 1:00.31 in the 100 freestyle, second to Hannah Kellogg’s 58.27 as Kellogg was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.73.
Kingsley went 2:22.40 to beat Meghan Seidberg (2:29.98) in the 200 individual medley and, in the 100 butterfly, finished in 1:08.14, one-hundredth of a second behind the 1:08.13 from Addie Antshel.
Lauren Hayes beat Libby Reed, 28.71 seconds to 29.16, in the 50 freestyle as Georgia Langan posted 5:52.94 to win the 500 freestyle. Hali Seidberg went 1:06.31 to beat Jessey Eisenhut (1:09.81) in the 100 backstroke as Katie Ottaviano won the 100 breaststroke, her 1:14.74 just ahead of Elise Wratney (1:16.99).
Langan Seidberg, Kingsley and Wratney had the quickest 200 freestyle relay time of 1:48.39 as Kellogg, Luttrell, Hayes and Grace Reyna went 1:48.95. Eisenhut, Ottaviano, Seidberg and Hayes won the 200 medley relay in 2:04.96.
Jamesville-DeWitt took on Syracuse City that same night and rolled to a 92-85 victory with Gwen Lister and Sofia Bebla at the forefront.
Lister, in 1:05.33, was first in the 100 butterfly and then had the quickest time of 1:05.64 in the 100 backstroke, while Bebla went 2:23.38 in the 200 freestyle and 1:20.13 in the 100 breaststroke.
Abby McGuire was first in diving with 222.97 points ahead of Grace Evans (184.80) as Claire Huyck took first in the 100 freestyle in 59.15 seconds and Caroline Skahen claimed the 200 IM in 2:51.21.
Kathryn Donaghue was first in the 500 freestyle in 6:18.55 and Bianca Wales beat the field in the 50 freestyle in 28.76 seconds.
