Through two weeks, the Baldwinsville cross country teams can safely say that they’ve had to confront elite competition, with modest results.
Beaten by Fayetteville-Manlius on Oct. 10, the Bees traveled to Oneida Shores last Saturday and took two more defeats to the Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars.
In the boys race, claimed 20-39 by C-NS, it was Colin Delaney challenging for top individual honors, his time of 16 minutes, 52.8 seconds behind only the 16:40.4 from the Northstars’ Matt Leclair.
Jacob Schmid was fifth in 17:36.8 followed closely by Solomon Holden-Betts, who was fifth in 17:37.5 as Ryan Quinn was eighth in 18:00.7.
James Cary, in a clocking of 18:28.5, was just outside the top 10, followed closely by Ryan Wilson (18:31.5) as Tom Hagopian (18:35.2) and Aidan Micho (18:56.2) also had top-15 finishes.
The girls race went 15-50 in C-NS’s favor, B’ville unable to get anyone across the line until Vivian Holden-Betts made her way to ninth place in 22:24.7, with McKenzie Schmidt 10th in 22:27.1.
Margaret Solomon was 12th in 23:41.8, two spots clear of Sophia Cavalieri (23:44.6) as C-NS’s top eight sweep was led by sophomore Kate Putman, who tore to victory in 18:16.9, more than a minute clear of the field.
B’ville would try to break into the win column this Saturday when it meets West Genesee at Camillus Middle School.
