Things remained challenging for the Cazenovia girls tennis team in the wake of an Oct. 9 defeat to its neighbors from Chittenango.
Just 24 hours later, the Lakers found itself matched up against OHSL Liberty division front-runner Christian Brothers Academy, who kept Cazenovia off the board in a 7-0 defeat.
In single-set matches to eight games, Quinlan Emhoff and Megan Kuhn got close in doubles, only to fall 8-7 to CBA’s duo of Lily Geneocco and Hana Kang.
Elsewhere in doubles, Nova Berger and May Sayre lost 8-3 to Annie Kilmartin and Isabella Mead, with Emily Knapp and Ella Brown losing to Meredith Sommers and Audrey Schaefer 8-1. Nina Royer and Emma Schwartz lost 8-0 to Aubrey Mills and Grace Catalano.
Up in singles, Baylee Pierce pushed Allie Manicni, yet took an 8-6 loss. Julia Knutsen lost to Becca Ziemba 8-3 as Clare Douglas had an 8-1 defeat to Juila DelPino.
Cazenovia turned this around on Saturday, shutting out Pulaski by that same 7-0 margin as Pierce and Douglas lost just one game between them in singles and Berger won 10-4 over Holly Pacyon.
Rachel Malloy and Katie Pavelchak had the closest doubles match, also a 10-4 win over Lexi Charsky and Katherine Woods as the teams of Knapp-Royer, Sayre-Schwartz and Grace Probe-Kiana Vazquez all prevailed, Probe and Vazquez handling Lilah Darrow and Mackenna Lying 10-1.
When Chittenango returned to action last Wednesday, it had its own match against CBA, and only got on the board once in a 5-1 defeat.
It was Brooke DiFlorio preventing the shutout, winning 8-6, 8-6 over Juila DelPino, while Anna Rooney lost 8-1 to Gieselle Vlassis and Savannah Drake had an 8-3 defeat to Becca Ziemba.
The Bears’ doubles teams of Riley Ellis-Sarah Lanphear, Allison Soulier-Anna Spencer and Leah DeMauro-Jessica Hallock each took defeats, combining to earn just four games.
Just like Cazenovia, though, Chittenango would bounce back to win 7-0 on Saturday, in the Bears’ case a shutout of Bishop Grimes.
DiFlorio held off Sofia Ziankoski 8-6 as Rooney beat Sarah Falgiatano 8-5 and Drake handled Isabelle Kinsey 8-1. Combined, the Bears’ four doubles matches featured just three games surrendered to the Cobras.
