While volleyball was deemed “high-risk” and girls swimming also moved to early 2021, gymnastics remained the only indoor high school sport in Central New York this fall.
Baldwinsville has one of the area’s teams, and after three-plus weeks of practice the Bees’ season got underway last Tuesday against Central Square.
In a tightly contested meet, B’ville pulled it out, 120.96-117.60, over the Redhawks, led by Maddie Brooks, who had an all-around score of 31.85.
Brooks beat all individuals on two apparatus, securing an 8.0 with her floor exercise routine and adding an 8.4 to finish first on uneven bars. She also scored 8.15 on the vault.
Sydney McKenney led B’ville on balance beam, scoring 8.2, while consistent elsewhere thanks to an 8.15 on the vault, 7.65 on the floor and 7.4 on uneven bars.
Central Square’s Sage Wolfe led the all-around standings with 32.60, including an 8.65 beam routine, 8.25 on the vault and 7.7 on the floor. Lizzy Zacholl scored 8.8 on the beam and 8.3 on the vault to win both apparatus.
B’ville is home again on Wednesday night to take on Rome Free Academy.
