When the Baldwinsville girls bowling team ventured to Liverpool’s Flamingo Bowl for Sunday’s Section III tournament, it did so already having earned a championship at that very venue.
Three days earlier, in a showdown for first place in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division, the Bees got the best of the Liverpool Warriors in a tense 2-1 decision.
And it happened even though Liverpool picked up the best two individual series.
Ashley Hardy had games of 218, 216 and 195 in her 629 series, with Makenzi Ormsby close behind as she opened with a 239 and earned a three-game total of 610. Mackenzie Gill added a 547 series.
B’ville won because it had a bit more depth, Julia Spiech picking up a 582 series that included games of 229, 180 and 173, while Jenna Spiech had a 212 and 197 to close out her 572 series.
Amelia Ponto helped out, too, shooting 166 and 165 before a closing 192 gave her a 523 set as Madison Hass had a 171 in the middle of her 486 series.
B’ville would also get the best of Liverpool in the sectional tournament, earning a total pinfall of 5,139 to the Warriors’ 5.045 as they finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Class A standings behind Rome Free Academy and Auburn.
Hass led the Bees on an individual basis, shooting a 231 in the second game on the way to a six-game total of 1,105, which put her in 13th place.
Jenna Spiech was consistent in her 1,040 series, with no game higher than 186 or lower than 157, while Ponto peaked with a 195 third game in her 1,036 set. Julia Spiech finished with a 189 in her 1,017 series as Jenna Hierholzer opened with a 198 and had a 941 set.
Back on Thursday, the boys match between B’ville and Liverpool went 3-0 in the undefeated Warriors’ favor.
Dylan Williams led the Bees with games of 214, 221 and 205 in his 640 series, while Tanner Rozyczko opened with a 258, but cooled off to a 615 series.
Zach Evans’ 222 was part of a 595 set as Eric Hildreth got a 536 series and Dylan Love a 507 series. On Liverpool’s side, Zak Ormsby had a 650 series and Devin Roberson a 626 series as Josh Winzens posted a three-game total of 593.
Each of the boys Bees would now prepare for their own sectional tournament, set for this Sunday at Utica’s Pin-O-Rama.
