After a pair of defeats to Chittenango the previous week, the Christian Brothers Academy girls volleyball team looked to regain its winning form.
The Brothers beat Pulaski in four sets last Thursday as Kristen DeLorenzo, who passed 1,000 career digs a week earlier, added 22 to that total, also earning eight aces and four kills.
With her 11 kills, Bella Roberson paced CBA’s front line as Ashley Brown got eight kills. Delaney Della Donna had six kills, three blocks, five digs and four aces, Lauren Griffith getting 11 assists and three kills while Makenna Shultz (nine assists) helped in the back.
Up against Cato-Meridian 24 hours later, the Brothers were quite impressive, taking the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-13 and then closing out the Blue Devils 25-18 for the sweep as DeLorenzo had 15 digs, eight aces and three kills.
Lauren Griffith got 21 assists and five aces, passing it to Bella Roberson, who again had 11 kills. Delaney Della Donna got seven kills and five aces, Molly Niedzwiecki adding seven aces and four kills as Olivia Zoeckler also got four kills.
East Syracuse Minoa, who prevailed in five sets over Central Valley Academy on Jan. 17, took a four-set defeat to the Oneida Indians in last Tuesday’s action.
The Spartans lost the first two sets 25-18 and 25-12, and though it was able to prolong the match by claiming a close third set 25-23, it could not quite take it further, Oneida winning the fourth 25-21.
Defensively, Alana Day had 15 digs for ESM, adding five aces, with Helaina Scolaro getting 14 digs and Morgan Ransom 11 digs. Ariana Costanzo produced 16 assists and five aces as Skyler Mahoney and Olivia Fortuno each had eight kills, Mahoney also putting up six blocks.
For the Indians, Jamie Jones had 14 kills, with Zoey Fox getting 24 assists. Defensively, Elysia Carbajal earned 15 digs and Abby Phillips had 11 digs.
Things did not get easier last Thursday against Utica Proctor, ESM absorbing a 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 defeat to the Raiders as its record fell to 5-10.
Another loss came on Friday as those other Spartans from New Hartford split two 25-18 sets with ESM before taking the next two sets by 25-12 and 25-15 margins.
Manlius-Pebble Hill continued to search for its first win of the season, having taken three-set losses to Tully, Fabius-Pompey and Weedsport in a five-day stretch from Jan. 14 to 18.
Then it was Onondaga defeating the Trojans 25-7, 25-16, 25-12 last Tuesday night and, in a rematch with Tully on Thursday, MPH fell to the Black Knights 25-9, 25-13, 25-11, and a night later lost 25-12, 25-17, 25-19 to Fabius-Pompey.
