Each of the Solvay bowling teams have made a real breakthrough in the 2019-20 season, and had a chance late in January to secure their respective Onondaga High School League titles.
The boys Bearcats were 8-1 heading into its showdown with first-place Homer on Tuesday afternoon, but were unable to get a point from the Trojans in a 7-0 defeat.
Homer had a pinfall of 2,895 to Solvay’s 2,552, with Jeremie Halke at the forefront for the Trojans as games of 214 and 217 were followed by a blistering 267 in his 698 series.
Ethan Bigelow led the Bearcats with a 608 series capped by a 222 third game. Alex Gallardo opened with a 203 in his 562 set as Russ Tarbell (487 series), Carter Lee (460 series) and Owen Britton (435 series) followed.
Solvay’s girls, just behind CBA in the OHSL standings, improved to 9-2 with Tuesday’s 7-0 shutout of Homer at Strike-N-Spare Lanes that included the Bearcats with a pinfall of 2,080 to the Trojans’ 1,904.
Abigail Lee, with a 426 series, led Solvay’s efforts. Michalena Raymond had a 380 series, with Anastasia LaFlair getting a 362 set as Allyson Natale paced Homer with a three-game total of 485.
As for West Genesee, its girls team nearly knocked Liverpool from first place in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division Tuesday afternoon at Solvay Recreation Alleys.
Ultimately, the Wildcats lost, 2-1, to the Warriors, who only had one bowler (Dominique Cimini) complete a series with a three-game total of 512.
Lorelai Leskoske led WG’s girls, posting a 436 series with a closing game of 157. Rebecca Wituszynski had a 399 series, with Gabbie Gardner getting a 352 series.
The boys Wildcats lost as Richard Wituszynski had a three-game total of 459 and Calvin Lee led with a 451 series, with Connor Mathewson getting a 435 set. No Liverpool bowler topped the 501 series from Josh Winzens.
WG’s boys did beat Fayetteville-Manlius 2-1 on its home lanes Thursday afternoon, led by Bobby Bidwell, who shot a 202 game as part of a 549 series.
Richard Witusznyski’s 499 series beat out Lee, who improved to a 466 set as Connor Chawgo got a 457 series. To lead F-M, Kevin Winschel shot 224 and 201 plus a 192 in his 617 series.
By contrast, the girls Wildcats lost 3-0, seeing Leskoske shoot a 434 series and Rebecca Wituszynski a 423 series, each of them behind the 497 set from the Hornets’ Shelby Miner and Hannah Smith’s 450 set.
