After the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA boys swim team won head-to-head over Fayetteville-Manlius on Jan. 9, the Red Rams split a decision against Watertown and Liverpool two days later.
Things remained busy for J-D/CBA as it traveled to Mexico last Tuesday night and, displaying its depth, pulled away from the Tigers in a 108-78 victory to move to 6-3 on the season.
Conlan Rourke and Nate Wales each won two individual races, Rourke going 23.81 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and then winning the 100 freestyle in 51.90 seconds.
Wales held off Mexico’s Ryan Liedka, 1:57.64 to 1:59.42, in the 200 freestyle before he pulled away to take the 500 freestyle in 5:21.47, also pairing with Rourke, Nathan Chen and Peter Hatton to go 1:38.61 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Lucas Dekaney again dazzled on the diving board with 310.15 points, Chen going 1:07.24 to win the 100 breaststroke as he also finished second in the 200 individual medley.
Bobby Diel was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.76, just behind the Tigers’ Scott Kessler (1:00.12), while in the 200 medley relay Rourke, Chen, Mike Bratslavsky and Sam Bobrek finished in 1:50.71.
Connor Gleasman picked up 246.40 points in diving. Magee, Wan, Porter and Eric Bang were first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.37 as Magee, Wan, Rabin and Eddie Eliot swam the 400 freestyle relay in 3:53.50.
F-M, meanwhile, returned to action last Tuesday against Syracuse City at Nottingham High School, the same venue where the SCAC championships would take place later in the week.
The Hornets handled Syracuse 101-73, led by Lucas Wieres, who went 2:11.98 to prevail in the 200 individual medley and then won the 500 freestyle in 5:24.33.
Quinn Smith rolled to first place in the 50 freestyle in 24.09 seconds before a top time of 1:07.64 in the 100 breaststroke, also pairing with Jason Porter, Richard Wan and Cooper Hughes to win the 200 medley relay in 1:51.03.
Porter beat the field in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.91 as Ben Rabin swam the 100 butterfly in 1:03.32 and Michael Magee was first in the 100 freestyle in 57.78 seconds.
Following this, J-D/CBA and F-M both took part in Friday’s Salt City Athletic Conference championships at Nottingham.
J-D/CBA won the 200 medley relay as Rourke, Chen, Bratslavsky and Jamey Turo had a season-best 1:45.03, followed by Chen beating the field in the 200 IM in 2:10.80 as Porter was second in 2:12.62 and Bobby Diel (2:16.15) was fifth.
Wales was victorious, too, going 5:11.72 in the 500 freestyle, more than five seconds ahead of Baldwinsville’s Tristan Miranda (5:17.13) as Wales also finished seventh in the 200 freestyle and Chen was third (1:04.12) in the 100 breaststroke.
Rourke finished fifth in the 50 freestyle in 23.49 seconds, also taking seventh in the 100 freestyle while helping Chen, Wales and Hatton finish third in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.35, where the Hornets was sixth.
F-M had Wieres take second place in the 100 butterfly in 56.43 seconds, while Porter was sixth. Wieres was sixth and Eric Bang eighth in the 50 freestyle, with Wan getting sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.36.
Magee finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke, while Wan was 10th. The Hornets’ best relay finish came in the 400 freestyle as Magee, Bang, Hughes and Miguel Aldana posted a season-best 3:40.95.
