Another busy week of high school bowling included some key league matches for most of the area’s teams.
Fayetteville-Manlius took on Cicero-North Syracuse last Tuesday afternoon at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, with the girls Hornets he F-M girls picking off a point from the Northstars, in a 4-1 defeat.
Samantha Estock’s 488 series was four pins better than the 484 from Kendra Elliot as Shelby Miner got a 453 set. Katie Cloonan (518 series) and Jessaia McGriff (500 series) paced the Northstars.
In the boys match, the Hornets were shut out, 3-0, despite Kevin Winschel’s 640 series that included steady games of 222, 211 and 207.
Adam Koss had a 490 series and Ryan Yenny a 454 set, but they were far back of C-NS’s J.J. Connell, who had a 696 series ahead of teammate Landon Spingler (651 series) and Tyler Dottolo (644 series).
Against Auburn on Friday, F-M lost 5-0 on the girls side. Elliot shot a 577 series with games of 223 and 190, Estock adding a 499 series and Hannah Smith a 467 series. Auburn got a 671 series from Kaylee Hodson and a 657 series from Amber Pidlypchak.
East Syracuse Minoa bowled last Monday against Auburn at Falcon Lanes, where the girls lost 3-0 to the Maroons.
America Carhart shot a 452 series with a 184 high game, while Emily Blakeman got a 177 in her 420 set. Auburn saw Pidlypchak shoot 257 and 231 to close out a 679 series and Kaylee Hodson add a 651 set.
ESM then faced Syracuse on Tuesday. The girls lost 2-1, with Carhart still posting the best individual series of 487 (198 high game) ahead of the 479 set from Syracuse’s Alayna Cottet.
But the boys Spartans won over Syracuse by that same 2-1 margin, Brett smith opening with a 225 in his 570 series as Tyler Talarico got a 563 series (201 high game) and Chris Bayly started with a 201 in his 548 set.
Staying busy on Thursday, ESM met Cortland and won 2-1 over the Purple Tigers in the boys match led by Bayly, who shot 214, 217 and 203 in a 634 series.
Talarico, opening with a 231, posted a 594 set ahead of the 577 series from Geno Messina that opened with a 223 game. Ryan Buffum shot a second-game 215 and finished with a 574 series as Cortland’s David Benjamin closed with a 233 and 257 in his 649 series.
The ESM girls lost 2-1 to Cortland, Carhart’s 190 game opening a 521 series to again lead the Spartans as Olivia Nissen had a 376 set. Makayla Cotterill got a 542 series for the Purple Tigers as Calista VanEpps added a 492 set.
Bishop Grimes had its boys team take on Solvay in a key OHSL match last Friday, and the Cobras’ pinfall of 2,483 topped the Bearcats’ 2,364.
Still, Grimes lost, 4-3, with Alex Williams finishing with a 200 in his 538 series and Ben Schultz adding a 535 series. Joe Belton, with a 483 series, was two pins ahead of Matt Rogers’ 481 as Ed Matyusk led Solvay with a 525 series
Grimes met Weedsport last Tuesday afternoon, winning 7-0 in the boys match as the Cobras improved to 5-2 on the season.
Matt Rogers shot a 502 series (191 high game), with Alex Williams, earning a 486 series, just ahead of Trevor Sikorski (479 series) and Louis Pelose (463 series).
The Grimes girls lost 4-3 to Weedsport, with Olivia Coppola’s 372 series the best for the Cobras as Maggie Peregoy added a 336 set. A 7-0 defeat to Solvay followed.
