Each of the Baldwinsville indoor track and field teams traveled to Utica College’s Hutton Dome Friday to compete in the sixth Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association meet of the winter.
And the boys Bees proved victorious, earning 90 points to hold off Utica Proctor (84 points) amid a 23-team field. The B’ville girls finished third with 54 points behind Clinton and Rome Free Academy.
As a starting point, the B’ville boys went 1-2 in the 3,200-meter run, Jack Michaels going nine minutes, 59.35 seconds to hold off teammate Colin Delaney, who was second in 9:59.81.
In the 4×400 relay, the Bees won as Owen Weaver, Logan Hayes, Andy Davis and Connor Waldron posted 3:45.39, beating Whitesboro (3:46.28) by less than a second.
Waldron went from there to beating the field in the 600-meter run in 1:26.96, holding off Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Dion Putaski (1:27.31) as Nate Hludzenski finished 10th.
To cap things off, Waldron, Michaels and Delaney paired with James Cary in the 4×800 relay, where the Bees, in 8:35.76, were nearly 23 seconds ahead of runner-up Central Valley Academy (8:58.73).
Sam Mellinger was third in the 55-meter dash in 6.74 seconds, while Cary was sixth in the 1,000-meter run in 2:51.31. Mellinger, David Mahar, Malik Davis and Robert Thompson were second (1:36.12) to Proctor (1:33.17) in the 4×200 relay.
Owen Weaver rose to second place in the triple jump, going 40 feet 9 ¼ inches, and was fourth in the long jump, going 19’2 ¼” as Thompson was eighth and Curtis Hey ninth.
Adam Graham had a sixth-place shot put toss of 42’7”, with Alex Boak sixth (44’9”) and Steven Miller seventh (43’9”) in the weight throw. Aidan Priest was sixth in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet.
Moving to the girls MVITA meet, B’ville again got a top-two sweep from the 55 sprint, where Karen Ekure, in 7.49 seconds, edged out Lauren Addario (7.54 seconds) for the title.
Ekure and Addario, paired with Allyson Surowick and Courtney Bostic, went 1:50.48 to win the 4×200, well clear of runner-up Clinton (1:57.84) as the Bees were fifth in the 4×800 relay in 11:09.74.
Addario finished second in the triple jump, going 36’1 ¼” behind Proctor’s Tamiah Washington (36’7 ¼”) as Ekure cleared 4’10” for second place in the high jump and Surowick had a seventh-place long jump of 15’ ¼”.
Kathryn Mitts went 32’5” in the weight throw to finish seventh, Ella Smith clearing 8 feet in the pole vault for eighth place. Madison Kennedy got eighth place in the 600 in 1:49.17. with Anna Conklin 10th as Sarah Fawwaz was ninth in the 3,000-meter run and Vivian Holden-Betts ninth in the 1,500-meter run.
