As was the case so many other times in the past, the West Genesee boys swim team finds itself looking up at Liverpool in the standings.
When the Warriors arrived in Camillus Tuesday night, it proved no different as it defeated the Wildcats 101-82 to remain undefeated.
Liverpool is having all of its contests this season away from home due to the renovations of its athletic complex, but it still has a strong core of swimmers, all of whom would find success against WG.
But the Wildcats did snatch a pair of individual victories, one of them by Keegan Scharoun, who by going 52.07 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle was able to hold off Liverpool’s Jack Andrejko (52.65) for the top spot.
Later, in the 100 breaststroke, Ryan McMahon gave the Wildcats another title, his time of 1:03.29 just enough to fend off Warriors star Griffin Merkling (1:03.81).
Scharoun finished second (24.10 seconds) to Julien Brownlow (23.00) in the 50 freestyle, with McMahon second in the 500 freestyle in 5:04.31.
Matt Barrington went 2:06.68 in the 200 freestyle for a runner-up finish as Alex Shuron, in the 100 butterfly, finished in 57.44 seconds, not far from Curtis Merrick’s first-place 56.46.
Shuron, McMahon, Scharoun and Chase Foresti did quite well in the 200 medley relay with a season-best 1:44.46, just behind Liverpool’s 1:42.35. In the 200 freestyle relay, Scharoun, McMahon, Shuron and Nate Long finished in 1:36.32.
After another week of practice, WG is back in action next Wednesday night when it visits Auburn.
