As part of an impressive run through December, the Marcellus wrestling team pulled off a rare shutout during its OHSL Liberty division meet against Chittenango last Thursday night.
The Mustangs blanked the Bears 86-0, and while it benefited from eight forfeits, there were still seven contested bouts, and Marcellus won all of them.
Only Kyle Brown, at 285 pounds, had a close call, but he beat John Spencer 8-5 after Zach Grolling (195 pounds) pinned Jacob Ezzo in 54 seconds and Nate Farino (220 pounds) got a 32-second pin over Luke Martin.
At 132 pounds, Jacob Kermes earned his pin over Quentin Mohamed early in the third period, with Ryan Moses (138 pounds) taking 1:52 to pin Mark Young.
Dylan Price, wrestling at 145 pounds, earned an 18-1 technical fall over Andrew Bailey, followed up by Quinten Weaver (152 pounds) pinning Shaun Irwin in 1:51.
As that went on, West Genesee battled SCAC Metro division rival Cicero-North Syracuse, and started quite well before the Northstars dominated the latter portion of the meet, handing the Wildcats a 57-26 loss.
It opened at 126 pounds with Gavin O’Neill beating Eric Salenski 8-5, and two bouts later Nate Wade, at 138, got a pin over Vincent Ciciarelli.
Before Mike Farino claimed a forfeit at 195, Colin McAvan (160 pounds) got a 15-0 technical fall over Jacob Nobles and Joe Comny, at 182 pounds, pinned Chris Mehlek.
That left WG in front 26-21, but C-NS took over from there, winning the last six bouts, five of them by pins to go with a forfeit.
Jordan-Elbridge competed last Friday against Red Creek and, largely on the basis of having a full roster, prevailed 66-18.
Only once did the Eagles win a bout on the mat, thanks to Nolan Jackson, who at 126 would pin Jacob Morrisette in 18 seconds.
Otherwise, it was a series of forfeits as Madyn LaFleur (99 pounds), Bryan Tanner (120 pounds), Cameron Prior (132), Caspian Phillips (145), Cole Mullen (170 pounds), Cameron Newhook (182), Anthony Baron (195), Jared Lawrence (220) and Ryan Rivenburgh (285) won without having to take the mat.
Marcellus takes part in this weekend’s Kenneth Haines Memorial Tournament at SUNY-Oswego as J-E and West Genesee rested until the calendar turned to 2020.
